Newbie has IGT S Red White & Blue
« on: January 17, 2022, 08:03:45 PM »
Hello!  I recently purchased a non-functional IGT S, Red White & Blue, 2-coin, 25 cent, quarters only machine.  I found this website and have done a fair amount of research on my machine.  I have an electronics background but haven’t worked on a slot before.

Initially after powering on, I get a code 61, followed by a code 12.  I removed the MPU circuitboard and verified the battery voltage was 0v.  I have a new 3.6v battery ordered.

This is an S, and not an S Plus.  What are the chances that a battery replacement only will return my machine to full functionality?  Should I also order a clear chip and a ram set?  The previous owner said the machine hadn’t been working for quite some time and the battery was completely dead.

I would like to have a clear chip and a ram set for my machine on hand, even if it is not necessary at this time.  Will the same clear chip work for both an S and an S Plus machine?  How do I know what ram set to order for my machine?  Thanks!

If there was no corrosion from a leaky battery chances are a new battery will get it working again. Contact member RB. He can help you out with chips you may want.

If it's truly a S-slot then you don't need a set chip.  That is used to set the denomination and enable the bill validator on a S+.  Since S slot don't have a validator it's not needed.  You shouldn't need a clear chip for it either.  Just replace the battery and follow the directions for clearing the 61 error.

Thank you for the very informative reply!  That is good news for me I believe. I’m fairly certain I do have an S machine.  Circuit board is in back lower corner with 3 separate black electrical connectors, 2 that connect on the top of the board, and one on the lower side.  The door has a ‘door open’ switch versus having door optics.

I will post a follow up reply once I receive the battery and have it installed.

It's an S slot.  S+ machines don't have the 3 connectors that connect to the MPU board.

Just to echo an earlier post a SET chip is used to enable the bill validator by setting the machine denomination.
Ie by setting it to 0.25 you get 4 credits for each dollar inserted.
S slots didn't have bill validators so a set chip is irrelevant to the S slot.

When no bill validator is in play the machine is based off of coins which is "compared" to a sample thus the denomination is also irrelevant to the machine.
The practicum is that a 20 coin win is a 20 coin win, regardless of what coin that is.
However if you do want to go from a quarter to a penny then you will have to change out the hopper wheel and other coin handling parts.

The S might use a clear chip but I am unaware of which chip that is, they are also used very rarely and it doesn't sound like your in immediate need so I would hold on that.
If you can't afford to lose you can't afford to win.

Just a follow up for anyone that may be interested.  I replaced the 3.6v battery and the machine functions normally, I think.  When inserting quarters, the credits display doesn

For some reason, only a portion of my previous post was show?

When inserting quarters, the credits display does not increment, only the coins played, up to 2.  The machine will accept additional quarters, but not register them.  When played, any wins will be paid from the hopper to the coin tray.

DIP switches are all in the on position.  Credits display never increments, either when adding quarters, or when a win occurs.  All wins are paid from the hopper to the coin tray.

This is normal for machine to only take enough coins to play max bet.

Press the coin-credit button and lite it up.  Now wins and bills should go to credit.  You may need to also raise the credit limit.

You can check the display by opening the door and press the white button repeatedly- you should get different numbers showing up in both the winner paid and credit meter.
