IGT S+ Haywire Deluxe - Can't get past 4 - 1

I just purchased a Haywire Deluxe but running into a very frustrating issue that I have searched for solutions to.  When I power on the machine, the pill validator goes through it initialization, the reels spin, but then I get a 4 in the Winner Paid window, a 1 in the Credits window.  It will sit at that for a second, then those go away and 0 shows in the Coins Played window.  It will cycle through that non-stop.  I am able to put a bill in the bill validator, but it immediately gives me change back.  Any help or direction would be appreciated.  Thanks!

There should be a cash/credit button that will change this behavior.
Do you have a sample coin in your comparitor ?

Unfortunately, the Cash/Credit button doesn't change the behavior. I also have a sample coin in as well.  I've also changed out the comparitor thinking that was the problem but with no luck.  I've also switched the bill validator.  I've also gone so far as to clear the RAM and set the bill validator again.  Still no luck.

For the life of me, I can't find what the 4-1 error is referencing.

Need some clarification on what the problem actually is?

sounds as if the machine is working, especially if it is taking in money and dispensing coins.
does the machine play as it should?

the bill payout is just a setting, what sp chip is in your machine?

get into the test menu, go to the reading 5_0 or 5_1 or 5_2 in the winner paid window, cycle through that menu to the number 8_?  should be a 0. 

check the wiring on the cash out a switch,  it has one wire that is different from all the others.

go to the s plus section, how to guides, use the flip cards information, it describes all the functions of all the tests and their settings and what it means.

Thanks for the advice.  I will take your recommendations as my next steps.  The machine does not play now in it's current state.

For my 2c this does not look like an error to me.
Winner paid 4 was the last win, 1 credit remaining on the machine.

Does anything happen when you hit the Bet1 and spin wheels button ?

Typically error codes are shown in just 1 window with the other blank.
Ie when setting up a game you will get 61 showing up, hold down the white button and it will change to 61-1 (in one window) not in two windows.

With 1 credit on your machine you will not be able to change the settings.

What happens when you drop in a coin ??

Jay and Jim, Thank you so much for your direction!  You were right, the 4-1 was not an error.  I happen to have another coin comparitor swapped it out and swapped out the coin and I was able to add credit via coin.  I then went in and switch the payout to credits and bill acceptor to credits and everything is working perfectly!!
