Batteries provide higher energy density for storage.
While capacitors have more rapid charge and discharge capabilities....not the same use here...esp. if you turn off your machine for any real length of time.
The only time the battery is being discharged really - is when the machine is off.
I've seen S2000's turned off for nearly two years.
Most recent event was during the Covid shutdown.
When I turned them back on, they hardly had any memory problems.
The best of the bunch were the IGT S+'s...not a single [Code 12].
Bally's, WMS BB2's, Aruze's and Konami's on the other hand...many of these models were nearly all dead or low.
I'm not going to say installing a Goldcap is bad or anything, I've personally never tried it and I don't reccomend it.
If anything, I'd might try installing a larger holder to throw in a larger sized battery with the same voltage?
If your S2000 is eating batteries, I'd be looking into some other failure for it?
Perhaps a resistor or diode along the line could be going out of specs because the battery power needed to retain the memory settings and accounting is so minimal, a CR2032 should be sufficient?
If you DO try using a Goldcap on an S2k, we'd love to hear the performance of this mod!
