Bally Alpha 2 Wave issue.
« on: November 08, 2024, 03:33:23 PM »
I purchased a Bally Alpha 2 Wave with the Velocity game package on it.  I removed the hard drive and installed a drive from a 22/32 and installed the software.  Bally OS loads fine then the screen goes black before the game ever loads.  Any idea on what I should check?

Update I did use another disk that came out of a 22/32 but reinstalled the OS and new game.  I tried Willy Wonka and Dragon Spin both from a USB drive   I wonder if it has something to do with the video card?

Are you sure you gave the machine enough time to load? I have a Wave machine with Velocity and it takes about 15 minutes for the game to load. When it comes to configuring the game, be sure to select 1-cent denomination for every game or it will crash.

Sorry to clarify.  It plays fine with Velocity on it.  It's the other couple games I've tried to load on it.  I'm wondering if it's the video card or something else.  Everything installs fine it's after that Bally screen it just goes black. I let the machine sit for over 20+ minutes with just a black screen.

Update here.  So I tried to install Wonka and Dragon Spin both from a USB and they install fine but after rebooting and the Bally screen goes away the screen is black.  I installed Her Haw Scatter off a CF and it came up fine.  Super puzzled why the USB games are having issues.   Any insight would be helpful

Wonka and Dragon Spin require that the topper be connected to the VGA port on the video card, not the CPU.  Also, depending upon which video card you have you may have to upgrade it to a K2000
If it ain't broke don't mess with it.....

I saw your reply to another post when digging thru threads last night and actually ordered the adapter from Amazon.   I'll have it today and let you know if that fixes it.    Thanks!

Finally got I to the setup screen for Wonka360.  It's asking me about machine host. Is there something I'm missing?  Do I need a paytable dongle?

**Update** got it working
