Replacement reel strips? Flamingo Nickels

I just picked up this project and the reel strips are destroyed (big chunks missing).  Anyone know if this game shared reel strips with a more common game?  Or does anyone have an extra set of reel strips?  I believe this game was re-themed for the Hilton Flamingo hotel casino. The other option is to change the game kit, but I kind of like the Flamingo/Miami Vice theme.

Wow, be careful with that top glass.  I can't imagine that form factor is widely available.  Same story with the strips.  That might be a tough hunt.

Hopefully there is another machine that uses these same strips. If you can remove the 3 strips, lay them side by side and post a photo of them someone here can probably tell you if they are unique or if they are also used on a standard machine and available. Also, measure the width of the strips, that is sometimes different.

If they are unique then you may have to patch them as best you can until finding a better solution. Seems like I read in another thread on NLG recently that there is a company (in Las Vegas I think) that will make replacement strips or custom strips for slot machines. I would guess it is costly. There used to be a company named KSK Digital Printing Solutions that did this but I don't know if they are still around.

Other people have written about making their own strips, had them printed on mylar or plastic at a local print shop like Kinko's (now called FedEx Office Print). If you lay out the 3 strips can you see that the missing graphics on 1 strip are present on another strip? Might be possible to photograph the graphic symbols and move the missing ones back to the damaged strip on a photo editing program. Then take the picture files to Kinko's to print??

Is the shape of the top portion of the machine custom or did other IGT machines use it too?

I could be wrong, but I think they were made for that casino as a custom job. I've seen a few over the years with that same top and it seems they were all for the Flamingo Casino

I do not think you have a choice as to changing the game entirely, unless you want to swap out the top box. I hope your on the upside on this machine, as new reels trips are gonna set you back around $200 from Sunkist (from what I've heard).

If anyone here is interested in parts from this machine, let me know.  I'm not interested in paying $200 for reel strips.  The game boots up and the reels spin.  Has an error 42 code, which I believe is because the center reel strip is not currently on the reel.  Would prefer to barter for parts I am looking for:

- 24v coin comparitor for Bally S5500
- Bally Game Maker V7000 clear chip
- Bally Game Maker games (poker, black jack, keno)
- Bally Game Maker top and lower glass for a 20" monitor machine (I'm not sure if any of the Mardi Gras designs fit this machine, definitely like those over the generic green graphics).

It's called a "coffin top", and there are some other game kits out there. Do a search here or on the archive site and you'll find pictures of some other coffin top machines. They are rare when compared to round top, 9", or 16".

If the damaged strips are the only reason to part out the machine it may not be necessary. There are alternatives to getting the reels made for a lower cost. Essentially they are just plastic strips with graphics symbols printed on them, people have made strips for themselves or others. It just depends on how you want to go about it.

I have left 2 messages for Sunkist Graphics to call me back over the past two weeks, but they haven't returned my calls.  They created the reel strips, so I imagine it should be a pretty straight forward print job.

That does look very nice, I like that out of the ordinary "coffin" top cabinet. I think it's good you decided to check on alternatives to getting the strips replaced, saved a machine from possibly being discarded. And a seldom seen machine to boot!
