IGT S+ handle sticks
« on: December 10, 2015, 03:18:52 PM »
I have a IGT S+ it is a 5 coin .25 jamaican me rich.the problem i am having is the handle sticks in the down position every time. I can wiggle and mess with it and it will finally go back up. It locks back in position when it goes up and does not release until a coin is inserted. You pull it down it sticks at bottom until you mess with it. Has anyone had this happen to theres? Also can the shocks be redone to work again? Thanks

The rubber stoppers inside the mech handle have a tendency to "melt" over time into a gooey mess.   I would look at the rubber stoppers for signs they are beginning to fall apart, thus causing the handle to stick.  You may also want to look at the spring that pull the handle back to position, make sure they are not compromised.

Thanks for the reply. I new the old s2000 had the plungers that got gooey. So the s+ handle has some rubber stoppers that get gooey also. It really seams like it is metal hitting metal stopping it. But i am not sure.

The rubber has deteriorated / melted as most all rubber does from age. Now the rubber is gone and hitting the metal bar at each end of the stop. As suggested, spray some WD-40 or Cable and Chain Lube on the entire arm mechanism inside the cabinet.

putting WD40 on it might let it operate for a while, the problem is the metal stop that would hit the rubber bumper is now sticking to that part that had the rubber on it. now if you lube it and it doesn't stick, the handle will fly back up to the at rest position with such force it will start to come back down and lock in that position. the only way to fix the problem is to fix the problem.  the only way to repair it is to replace the part that had the rubber on it, to do this you have to disassemble the handle assembly, a lot of work, or replace the entire handle assembly, they are available for around 25.00 range complete with handle.  if you don't have a bill acceptor this job is not so bad, if you have a bill acceptor a little more work is involved, usually have to remove the bill acceptor housing to make it easier to get to the parts.  with the right tools and not snapping off the hex head bolt that holds the handle in place, you are looking at 1 to 1-1/2 hours to do this start to finish.  I have replaced this part with the handle still attached to the machine. you can use a S-2000 handle assembly ,they are the same as a S+, and I have never seen a S-2000 rubber bumper melt down like the S+ has.

I sprayed that handle down with all kinds of wd40. It is still the exact same way. I am going to try to take the handle unit off of it to see what is going on.

you can re manufacture  the rubber that is missing.  people have put a piece of rubber around 3/4" thick held with countersunk screw and nut. I believe there might be pictures somewhere of what that part looks like.

I can wiggle and mess with it and it will finally go back up. It locks back in position when it goes up and does not release until a coin is inserted.

Just a side note, that aside from having to work it to get it to return to the idle/upright position, that's normal behavior for the handle to be locked in the upright position until a coin is inserted (or the "Bet 1 Credit" button has been pressed and there was at least one credit on the meter).

I took the handle off. It was the metal piece that clicks as you pull the handle and keeps it in place so you can not push it back up until the handle goes all the way down. This piece would stick and not return to release the handle until you messed with it some jiggle it or what ever. I cleaned it up and lubed it with super lube. Works like new now. Thanks all
