Please forgive me if this is a trivial question but looking through the setup I don't see it..

Is there a way to manually modify (or clear) the credit amount displayed by using the reset key/button combinations?

Or are you asking can the credits on the machine be cleared without hitting the cashout button? It can but...you would have to take the mpu out remove some chips and....see where this going? It's easier to play them off or cash them out even if you have to keep refilling the hopper. If that was not your question please disregard cause I need another cup of coffee.

My bad!  Sorry I wasn't more precise in my OP.  Yes Dave, that is the gist of what I was getting at.

This is an $0.25 S-Plus that I use as a piggy bank  I have set the DIP switches to up the maximum hand pay above the default 400.  I don't recall exactly what I set it to but I don't think that is relevant? 

In this particular case I banked $80 for 320 credits and was playing those down.  At some point I hit a 600 credit combination that kicked up the total on-machine credits for 740ish (wish I could do that in the casino!  ).  As the upper hand pay limit is raised it didn't trigger the operator key reset, like I wanted it not to.  I realize that I could cash the credits out to drop it to zero with multiple hopper refiles but wondered if there is a way to get around that with a simple button toggle?  At this point I'm guessing that is a NO?

My guess is that the machine can't easily do what you want to do (easily zero the credits). These machines were originally built for casino use and that's not something the casino or gaming regulators would want to happen. Wins that are put to credits have to be accounted for, by paying them out or by playing them off. Just my opinion.

You can get a game prom that will allow you to set the (example numbers for explaining and don't have to be these numbers)

hopper limit (set to 400)
jackpot limit (set to 1199)
credit limit (set to 9000)
bill acceptor limit (set to 1000)

independently of each other so if you set the

hopper limit 400 .. 1 to 400 coins can be dispensed any thing over 400 then becomes a handpay on a cash out
jackpot limit .. any winning combination above this sets off a handpay and only those credits are keyed off
credit limit .. how many credits can be on the machine .. if the winning amount puts the credit limit over 9000 coins then those credits won will be dispensed
bill acceptor .. how many credits can be available before going idle

Now, that sounds like what I'm looking for but.. Isn't the hopper limit set via the DIP switches on a S-plus?  I took that to equal the max jackpot value that wouldn't trigger a hand payout (and it appears to behave that way)?  I don't see any of those other settings either unless I'm missing something obvious?
Is hopper limit not a standard setting?  Or.. are you saying that a different PROM adds those options via soft settings?

Preset settings or personal configuration via the dip switch settings.

If you push the self test switch button (tiny white colored button size of pencil lead) several times until the number 4 appears in the coins played window. Record the numbers that appear in the winner paid and credit window. Those numbers are the reel and game prom numbers. From that I can tell if your current game prom will allow those settings or not.

Not "small white" in this case but more the size of pencil eraser behind the power switch.  Shows, 4778 alternating with 0 in winner paid and 0872 in the credit window.

If you go with OHIO, he can get you a ss1271 or something similar. Then you can make lots of changes. I had 7 S+ machines without hoppers and was able to set them for nothing but hand pay. Hit cash out and turn reset key and all were gone. Loved it.

It is a swap but will require a set also since the difference in the accounting information. Easy to do.

At this point I've put all I can into this machine.  Maybe when I get another, need a set chip or see if I have anything left after the divorce?
