Creature won't boot up?
« on: January 24, 2016, 12:15:44 PM »
This game is in my basement and was working about a week ago.  Today turned on and all i get is a flashing "Rug" type gibberish on the screen.  All yellow lights are on at tray and the red light flickers a little.  Only Igame I have so I am limited with switching out things.  I tried replacing battery and key chipping it but nothing different.  Thoughts?  TY in advance     :Scratch-Head:

I would remove and reseat all software components.  Also get a pencil eraser and clean the contacts on the simms and eprom chips.

Cleaned everything and still the same?  Any other ideas?  it is a 3902 board.  If I pull out tray and turn on validator cycles so I assume that would be ok.  Power supply maybe?

Ok next question.  It has a base chip I00000454 in it.  I am using a key17 chip.  I don't remember if that totally clears the board or not?  When it was last shut off their were credits on machine.  I remember something about not being able to key chip it with credits on it?

I'm not positive, but I don't think your key 17 will work with credits on the machine.
I use a key 22 on my Igames that is a clear/key chip. You may look in to getting one.
here is a screen shot.

Key 17 will keychip only, with no RAM clear. If it successfully takes, the screen will be solid violet/purple. A key 22 (or the replacement key 40) will display the option screen to do all three functions of clearing and keychip, as shown already. For a 17 you definitely cannot have credits, with a 22 or 40 you can clear it, even with credits. It will act unhappy and go into alarm a couple or three times though.

Are you sure none of the eproms are in backwards?  No legs broken on the chips or legs sticking out of the sockets?  If you're talking about a full screen of garbage, the issues above can cause what you're describing.

Thanks,
Jason

Yea I double checked all the pins when reseating them.  No such luck.  I did order a key 22 chip though. :Scratch-Head:

Assuming software is installed correctly and the MPU board is good, the next most likely cause is the power suppply.  Have you checked the +13/+25VDC output voltages?

OK, Update on game.  I received my key 22 chip installed it and I got the screen above.  I made all three selections yes and I rebooted and got a green screen saying to replace with the original boot chip.  So far so good.  When I put original boot chip in and turned on I got my original garbage screen.  Don't think it is power supply as the boot screen worked?  don't know if I have a software issue or board issue or what?  Kind of stumped    :Scratch-Head: :Scratch-Head:

If you got the keychip menu on the screen then your power supply is likely OK.  It sounds like your game software is bad.  Do you have another game you can try in it?

I think I agree with this post. I would try the power supply if you have a know working one. If you don't try it you could be chasing your tail for awhile.

I think I would agree with Tilt that it is probably a software issue.

Can you post a high resolution picture of the MPU board?  Maybe we'll be able to spot something out of place?

Yes it is working!!  I would like to thank the Ken and Chris at Ohio Gaming for testing my board and determining it was a power supply issue.  Sold me a power supply and we are up and running again!!  Thanks all!!  Now on to the next problem!!   :thank_you: :thank_you:
