I have an older S+ made without a bill validator. I see Barry has an external validator from a PE. Can I attach it to my S+ and make it accept bills?

I remember that I had some early model Splus with the side attachment on them so it may work with the correct IDO bill acceptor but don't know how you would wire it

Yeah, they did make a side-mount bill validator to add-on to non-embedded machines.  The official IGT one looked like the one in the following linked post.  I haven't seen the one you posted a picture of.

I have a couple of them for my PE+ machines.  So long as you're able to obtain one with the wiring harness, they're fairly easy to install.  The comm wires just harness together, and then it's just a matter of tapping into the power distribution block in the machine to give it juice.


All that said, unless you're hell-bent on getting an old S+ to take bills, if you're just sick of feeding it coins all the time it would likely be easier to upgrade to a SP chip that supports tokenization, and change the machine to something like penny denomination where you get 25 credits for every quarter put in.

I tokenized my Triple Diamond. The SP1137 chip lets you set the token (coin) value from 1 to 99 credits. And you  don't even have to change the denomination. I set mine so each quarter gives 99 credits. I have a validator and while a $100 bill gives 400 credits. I can almost do that (396) with 4 quarters. I only use the validator occasionally, just to make sure it's still working. I also didn't want to change the b/v denomination.

Sentimental me, This was my first machine and for some unknown reason I just can't get rid of it. I hate having to feed it coins when the credits run out. It's a Triple Diamond that I put Playboy glass and the Big Bunny Head topper on
