S plus bill validator issues
« on: April 17, 2018, 07:42:36 PM »
I am having this exact same issue.  I was messing around with the Bill Acceptor to see if I can change a setting to accept $1 bill and now it seems that gears in the back are not lining up with the cash box.  The lever is up and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get the unit to sit lower like the picture.  I have tried to figure out how to pull the transport out of the cabinet but can't figure that out.

Is there a trick that I can use to try and get the whole assembly to sit correctly?  Maybe a video some where that will show me?

Bonus to anyone that knows how to change the setting so it will accept $1 bills.  Currently it only accepts $5 to $100 bills or at least that is what the label says.  I don't have any older currency to test it.  Before, it would take in the newer bills then spit them back out.

Any idea on how much it would cost to upgrade everything to accept new currency?

Thanks in advance for the help.

If your DBV is not mating properly with the transport mechanism then the following does not apply. You will need to get that alignment and fit corrected. But if the DBV will accept any bill and give you credits then it is installed ok.

On the bottom of the DBV-200 (is that the model you have?) there is an access hole, you can look in and see the circuit board inside and see the eprom or flash rom. Also in there you will see one or two sets of dipswitches. Some of the dipswitches set which bill denominations the DBV will accept or reject. I think you want all the denom dipswitches set to OFF so the bills will get accepted but that could vary with the software version in the DBV rom. You should write down or take a photo of your switches before changing any, in case you need to set them back. Post a photo or two of your DBV and we can give better advice.

When testing a DBV you want to use only a $1 bill to prove the DBV is working physically and communicating with the machine it is installed into. Once that is established then you can test it with a $20, $10, etc. If it works ok with a $1 but not with other bills then the DBV internal software is probably out of date, as you know all US bill except the $1 have been redesigned over recent years.

However, on many slot machines you can go into the machine's Test/Setup menu and it has a setting where you can tell the machine to reject certain denom bills. So even if the DBV is capable of accepting the bill the machine may say no to that bill. Among several reasons, they do this is so casino machines can refuse to accept a bill like $100 if there are some counterfeits in the area.

And if the number of credits on the machine is near the credit limit then it won't accept a bill that would put it over the credit limit.

.I got it seated correctly and now it works.  It accepts $1, $20 (series 2013), $50 (Series 2013) and the old style $100 but not the newer $5 or $10.

Also, when I put the money in, it just spits out coins.  How do I get to the setting yo change that?  I like that it spits out the coins when I win but not when I put bills in.

I see that you are new here, so Welcome to NLG!

[we need to start a new topic with your machine's problem, better to do that instead of piggy-backing here on this discussion that's already started. I will request that your thread get moved].

As you are finding out the seating of the cash can and other bill validator parts, plus it's security switches, will cause annoying problems if all are not in their proper place.

Since your bill validator will accept some bills but not others it probably needs a software update. What model is your bill validator? If a DBV-200 did you check the dipswitches on it's bottom side as I suggested? That's not likely what is causing the problem but should be checked just in case. Plus while you have the DBV out of the machine you can take a photo of its software eprom/flash rom. Post a photo of the eprom/flash rom on the bottom side of the DBV-200. You can't trust the sticker on the top of the bill validator to always be accurate, these machines are several years old and the bill validator software may have been changed at some point. If so there is usually a sticker on the dbv software rom if the update was done properly.

Your machine paying from the hopper instead of putting it to credits is probably a setting in its "Test/Setup" configuration menus. For help with that you will need to tell us what your machine's SP chip is. It is located on the mpu (main circuit board) and should have a label on top with the SP number written. Or you can find this out by asking the machine to tell you, it will be shown on the front display. Just follow these easy instructions:

http://newlifegames.com/nlg/index.php?topic=2251.msg11326#msg11326

Remember, the more accurate info you give us the better the help you will get. We need to know what machine you have (IGT S+ ??). And what bill validator it has installed. Post photos if you need to.

No need for you to do anything about moving the thread, one of the NLG staff folks will take care of it.
Is your machine an IGT S+ ?  We need to know what model it is so your discussion thread can be moved to the proper place.

Thanks for photos of the DBV, it is a DBV-200 and it has what is called a "flash" rom memory chip that is soldered to the circuit board, so the chip can't be removed & replaced to update its software. DBV's with flash memory like yours require a special software programming setup, there are folks here on NLG that can do that. You would have to ship the DBV-200 to them and they'd do the software updating. If the DBV will accept $20 that may be all you need and not worth the hassle of having it updated, that's something you will have to decide, depends on what bills it accepts.

From the photo it looks like all of your DBV-200 dipswitches are set correctly. So it is set to accept all US paper money, the only reason it won't will be because the DBV internal software doesn't recognize the new design of some bills. That's where the software update comes in if you choose to have it done. Another option would be to replace the DBV-200 with one already updated, but you'd have to compare the cost of that to the cost of getting the software update. Someone here familiar with that can give advice, I don't have that info.

You need to go thru the procedure I linked to earlier and find out what the SP chip is in your machine. Just follow the instructions, post a photo of what the machine displays and we can tell you what it means.

Yes it is an S+.

I was hoping to have it use all bill but it would definitely depend on the cost.

Thanks so much for the help.  You have been extremely helpful.

You are welcome, that's what this place is all about.

Since there is no sticker on the flash rom on your DBV-200 then the sticker on top is probably the correct software version you have. It says "2.51-04-03". There were 2 software releases after the one you have and they gave the DBV-200 the ability to accept more of the new design US bills. The most recent software version was called 2.61-04-03, the document for it is attached below and it contains notes about what bills it covered. I don't think a software update would let it work with ALL bills but it would cover most of them. But before doing that you should find out what bills it will and will not accept. Have you tried various denominations of paper money to see what it accepts? For home use most people are happy if it will take a $20 and put several playing credits on the machine.

When you get a chance find out what your machine's SP chip is. That will let us give you specific steps to set the hopper how you want it to act.

oops - I see where you have already figured out a lot of the bills it accepts. I *think* that a software update to the DBV-200 would let it work with the new purple $5 bill and the new $10. But the new $100 design bill came out after the last software release for the DBV-200, so the new $100 won't work even if you get the software update. And there won't be any more software releases for the DBV-200, it is an older model that is no longer supported by the manufacturer (JCM).

So if you really need the machine to accept all bills then you will need to look into upgrading the machine to a newer type of bill validator. That will entail a bit of work and my guess is the cost would be $100 (maybe more) for the parts.

Is there any recommendations on who I should talk to about upgrading?  I see some upgrade kits on Ebay but I want to make sure I get the correct parts.

Again, you guys have been extremely helpful.  I really appreciate it.

I've also contemplated swapping out the DBV  to something more up to date,  HOWEVER......  as my  machine came with this, AND  still works,  although somewhat temperamental,   I have it working again properly.  It  will accept some $20 bills  and I get the credits applied to the machine.   I'm not sure  I want to go through all the aggravation upgrading.  It's  NOT the hardware that I'm worried about,  it's the set up that may be more than I want to tackle.

I sure will follow this thread to see how it progresses and what you decide to do.
