Slant Top being Stubborn, any help?
« on: June 09, 2018, 09:46:55 PM »
Hello Guys,

Let me just say it’s good to be back, as I sold off my old machines and moved across the country, now years later I need help with a new machine I picked up.

I picked up a 96 s+ sizzling 7s slant top that needed cleared out as it would not jump to 61-1 error. So this model has no bill validator... I reset the machine go through the settings and assume at first since there is no validator leave it at 9-0, after a while I try 9,1. Here’s the deal...

The machine seems like it took the reset fine. But will not display the coin acceptance light. I was messing around and clicking the play 3 button and got the machine to start counting up in the winner paid from 0 to 6... no every time I turn on the machine it runs through the tests, gets to where it is ready to play, then the bottom of the two lights on the top starts flashing rapidly, and the top light is off. And when I go to open the machine as soon as I turn the key 3100 displays, so I open and close the unit, and it reboots through its self test... great. But winner paid still says 6 and that’s all it does. I have run tests and the door optics as well as the optics to the coin side to side and up and down, all passed and we working.. this is driving me nuts of what it could be. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!

On any machine that is new to you it is a real good idea to pull out the mpu and look it over. Check for a bad battery leaking, and even if it isn't you need to measure its voltage to see if it needs replacing. Also look for beverage spills on the board. Next remove the motherboard, make sure there are no coins laying under it and shorting out, causing erratic operation. And check the power supply cable that connects to the motherboard, look for browned/burned marks on the white molex connector. Check all the wiring in the lower part of the cabinet, sometimes mice chew on the wires and you might have some that are in bad shape. Look for signs of a flooded machine, too much rust on all the metal cabinet parts means that the electrical connectors could be corroded also. On a slant top there are extra security switches where the top of the cabinet meets the base, these have to be working correctly, or bypassed. Same for the cashbox security switches.

You don't know what has happened over the years to the machine, so don't assume anything. A good visual inspection will sometimes find stuff that needs to be corrected faster than a troubleshooting session will. Or it will eliminate some things from consideration when you have a problem that you are wondering what could cause it.

There is a switch in the lower left corner of the coin optic board (board that is below the coin comparitor). Pressing it should add playing credits to the machine with the main door open, then pressing the Spin button should spin the reels. If this works then a lot of things are ok.

Post photos of anything you aren't sure about. If is often difficult to guess what can be causing problems based on descriptions alone.

and WELCOME Back to NLG!    :waving_flag:

Thanks for the reply the guy said that when he bought it it was redone by a shop. In 2014.

So when I look at the board, the battery is dated 2014, but it was unplugged for a while, and had the error 61 that only got to get into error 61-1 once. So I ordered the battery and chips, chips arrived first and did the processes, went exactly as expected great. One thing to note is I bought this slant top and when I got it back I noticed about 5-10 dollars worth of quarters all in the back of the case, maybe I need to pull the hopper and remove all coins before going any further.

I wasn’t sure that the little box had any real value I assumed it was just a sub board, I’ll try adding credits. Error 3100 suggests hopper coin out tilt, I will have to pull the hopper and give the bottom part of the cabinet a good sweep of quarters and debris on the optics and get back to you guys!
