S Plus 61, 61-1, 61 Revisited
« on: June 23, 2018, 08:14:30 PM »
Thanks in advance.
Error 12, I replaced the battery, LS14250 with a 123. .4 volts isn't critical (I think)
I get a 61, then a 61-1 (+ bong), then back to a 61 after the reset key.
Pressing the test switch only sends me back to 61.
Bad CMOS? Bad Game Prom?

Bill Validator head in missing. Wires unplugged
Dropbox switch removed wires twisted together.
Door optics fine.
What should be the dip switch settings?
Why would someone cut just one leg of C45?
One for you 61 loopers, removing the CMOS (CAREFULLY not touching the pins) and reseating will get you back to a 61 then 61-1, but in my case the cycle simply continues.
I have also reseated game proms, no discoloration on power connectors, but reseated anyway.
Again, thanks in advance.

I can't read the label in your photo clearly, what is the SP chip number? On some SP chips the mpu board dipswitch is not functional, not used. If it is SP872 the dipswitch definition is shown in photo below. Dipswitches 5-8 deal with progressive jackpots so should be set to OFF for most home users.

Sometimes when troubleshooting a person will cut one leg of a capacitor to see if removing it from the circuit makes a difference in the problem. No need to cut both legs, and leaving it attached with one leg lets you know where it goes when you replace it later.

Sometimes when the machine is stuck in the error 61 loop it takes doing a Clear to fix things, as noted here:

I have found that if the battery voltage drops to almost nothing with the S+ then gets stuck in this 61, 61-1 loops, I’ve had to do a clear on the board to fix the problem. Not saying it always happens, just something I’ve noticed..

An SP872....

Dip switch settings seem ok. But yeah, I was afraid I would have to do a full clear.
I have an eprom burner and some blank eproms. Any idea where to get the clear chip code?
Or is that not allowed here?

After getting the 61-1 and closing and latching the door, then turning the reset key. Is the display going blank for a couple seconds then returning to 61? You state that pressing the test button sends you back to 61. Is it giving you something else before you push the test again? In the "LOOP" turning the key gives you the 61 again, then pressing the button gives 61-1, closing the door turning the key goes back to 61. If this is what happens, then you need a clear and a set chip even if you don't have B/V you have to set denom. It has been my experience that when the owner gets the code 12, they say wow I have this magic key to reset it with. By turning the key in code 12 it always needs a clear.

Yes. To be clear, the first time through after replacing the battery, I got the 61. Pressing the test button gives me the 61-1. Closing the door and turning the reset key gives me a blank screen for about 5 seconds before returning to a 61. Pressing the test button again will give me a blank screen for about 1 second then return a 61 with no "bong" and little amount of tinkering will get it to do anything else except, In order to get it to go back to the first state, I remove the CMOS for a couple of seconds and reseat it. THEN when powered up it will give a 61 that will go to a 61-1 when pressing the test button. I can go no further at this point without doing a full clear, it seems. I'll probably buy the chips from ebay.

Yes, a clear is now the only thing you can do. Even though you have a different SP chip, you can use the "How To Guide" for settings for a SP1271 as an example. Not all settings will be on yours, but the limits and forcing wins to credit are the same.

I should have mentioned earlier that there are folks/vendors here on NLG that probably have the Clear & Set chips for IGT S+. If you want to place a free WTB (WantToBuy) request we can do that. Might be a better price than ebay but I'm not certain about that.

Topic Solved, and so is the problem! :rotfl:

I received the clear chip in the mail today. PDQ transit considering I just ordered it on Monday.
Performed the clear procedure and not much else beside clearing the 61-1. It went straight to accepting coins and played like nothing had ever happened. I didn't set up the BVD since its missing it anyway, so keeping it disabled, unless I miss my guess, shouldn't be a problem. I did notice one thing however, what I would like to change (I guess I should finish reading the manual) is when it wins it spits out the coins instead of adding credits. I'd rather it add credits, then if someone chooses to "pay out" they can do so by hitting the button.

But other than that all is well again with this unit.  :thank_you: all for the kind help!

With the S+ slot it will give you the option of receiving your winnings or going to credit. This is done by pushing the cash out button when you start playing. So before you insert a coin push cash out. Now your winnings should go to credit. Then if you want to cash out your credits, just hit cash out again. If I remember correct the button should light up once pressed.
