s2000 is working, but not sure it should be :)

i looked at an s2000 someone purchased. it never worked when they got it home, it came up with an eeprom error on boot.  they got another eeprom, but they  installed it upside down.  i put one in correctly, and the machine booted.  i was expecting to have to program it, but it came up just fine. correct denomination, bill acceptor, hopper, and ticket printer all working. also, the varta battery ( not leaking) was below 1 volt, and no low battery error.   is this normal??

If it had been programmed at one time and the game type was not changed, then yes I would say it normal. As for the Carta it should be removed if on a 500 series board before it dies and starts to leak.

Low battery warning is only for the coin battery status.

i have always had to reprogram the machine after replacing the eeprom with a new chip.
