Newbie.... IGT S+ credit problem
« on: November 03, 2018, 06:10:32 AM »
Yep, another Newbie....  Apologize in advance if this has been asked before.  We have recently acquired an IGT S+machine.  It was working fine and paying with credits or cash out (if selected).  Then after a lucky streak credits exceeded 999....  All wins since result in a coin pay out.  We have tried the using reset key switch to no avail.   As a newbie, and with limited slot experience am thinking there needs to be some type of reset, but don't know what to do next.  We have a copy of  Liberty Belle Books, Marshal Frey, which does offer limited information.  Can't seem find too  much technical information on IGT machines online, although as a newbie to NLG thinking I may have finally found a wealth of info here,  still learning how to navigate NLG and talk the talk.....  Appreciate any help on what to do or look for.   Thanks !!

Welcome to NLG. Chances are the credit limit is set at 999 or the hopper limit is and it won't take any more credits. I'm going to post a link to check what chips (game and reel) you have in your machine. We can then look and see how to change it. Some game chips match those 2 limits but there are others that will let you set them independently.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for the suggestions as to what to look for to help us id the machine personality.

We opted for the second method “press the white test button (next to the power switch)” unfortunately our IGT does not have a test switch next to the power switch.  Any idea as to why it does not have a test switch? Does this imply it may or may not be an S+?  This machine does have a bill changer if that tells us anything…    The attached file contains pictures of the power switch, various tags inside the machine, the model number tag and finally the CPU board with the chips that are labeled.
Not sure if you may recall Paul Harvey on the radio, he had a famous saying, “now here’s the rest of the story…..”  So, here’s the rest of the story on our IGT machine; it’s likely what some might call a Frankenstein machine.  When we bought it the top and bottom glass were for a Double Lucky seven machine.  This machine has 5 times pay reels and had a half height five time pays taped over the lucky double sevens. OK, you’re thinking why did you buy this machine, right (the price was good, guess we know why…)???  With the play we have done, the machine pays out as a 5 times pay.  We are fairly confident that it has a five times pay personality.    Hopefully the pictures of the chips will help us confirm what we have.  Oh, and one more little Frankenstein feature.  There apparently was a problem with the original main door switch.  The tech (very loose use of the word tech) that worked on and “fixed” the door switch installed what I believe they call a cherry switch its hanging by two wires outside the main cabinet.  Will also be looking for a replacement door switch or info as to how to override the door switch if that is possible.  Guess my point of the long sad story is that we sent pics of the chips that appear to be labeled.  If the same tech that fixed the door installed the chips, I’d be skeptical if the labels are correct….
My other hobby, slot machines is one of my wife, is I collect and work on pinball machines.  I’ve seen some pinball tech work, while I am disappointed that people that work on and fix things can’t do very good work, I’m not shocked by what I see in this slot machine.  Betting you’ve seen a few interesting “repairs” too.
Hopefully this hasn’t been too much information, just trying to share all we know about this machine in hopes it will help us get to the solution.  Where do we go from here?  Anxiously awaiting your recommendation as to the next step!!
Thanks again for your time and help !!!!

Check behind the power switch for the white button.  It is not a good idea to bypass the door optics.

3CM Five Times Pay 95.10% SS6272

sp731:  with NO CREDITS on machine: press white button 13 times to get to spot to change credit and hopper limit.(they are not separate on 731) There should be a 7 in coins played window.

use jackpot key to move curser to under 1 in 1000 then use spin button to raise it.

If the label on your chip is correct (6272), the chip in there is for a 3-coin Five Times Pay game.

You can see that SS chip number in this list:

As sixcardmark said, the self test button on your machine is likely behind the on/off power switch -- reach back there and you'll likely feel it.

A BIG Thanks to Knagl and sixcardmark for the tips and info.
You were both correct the white self test button was on the back side of the power switch.  We were able to get the machine into the self test mode and stepped our way through the PSR to the point where we had 7 in the coins paid window, the as found setting was 1000.  We changed the hopper pay in the winner paid display to 1900.  We also found 1000 in the credits display, we changed the credit limit to 1900.  After setting both we pressed the self test button to save the new settings.  Closed the door, the machine reset.  Went back into the self test mode to verify both PSR changes had been saved.  Both the hopper pay and credit limit showed 1900.  Powered off the machine, powered on and inserted coins and played until the first , second, and third wins occurred.  All wins resulted in a hopper payout.  No credits were recorded.  Was increasing the PSR values the correct change?  Don’t think we should have lowered them, right?
Hmmmm….., not sure what the next step might be, will be waiting for advice or recommendations.
Thanks Again !!!

Try pressing white button 3 times.  If it shows 5-2 change it to 5-0 with the spin button.

Try 5_1.  This should give you the option to change back and forth from credit to coin with the credit/cash button.  When button is lit wins should go to credits, when it's not lit it should pay from hopper.

sixcardmark,  You hit the jackpot !!
    :thank_you:
Setting to 5-1 fixed the problem we are now able to play and receive credits.  When Cash/Credit button lit it pays wins with credits, unlit pays from hopper.

In every problem or issue there is a learning opportunity.  Prior to this question we had no idea how to access or change the PSR settings, so we learned at least that much.  Any thoughts about what happened or how this PSR got changed??  Is that a symptom of a backup battery getting low, or ??? Again just learning about slots, any insights would be appreciated.

Your Patience and advice very much appreciate !!!
