New to me IGT machine
« on: January 04, 2019, 07:46:03 PM »
Got to stay off Craigslist.. Found this jewel for $150... Couldn't pass it up.. Purchased DOA.. and since this is my first IGT I am in need of guidance..From what I can gather. this is a S2000 enhanced  Got home powered it up and after a bit I get a RAM error.. No problem let's look at the board... I am guessing the first purchase I need to make is a battery holder and a battery.. Looking for any advise..
ThanksJim

Yes the battery has been removed & the holder. Turn it on. Open the door. When you get the alarm, turn the key 3-4 times until it says press test switch. Do that then close the door. It should read main battery low.

How does someone break the coin cell battery holder off  :duh: ?  Still a good buy though.

I just took one off a bad board. I can send it to you & a new battery. You will have to solder the holder on. Should be simple. It came off easily. PM if interested.

Here's a pic. The holder itself serves as the + contact. It uses a CR2354 battery.

Update
So I followed RB's directions and nothing happened...looked at the reset key and someone disconnected the wires from it. Reconnected it and test worked perfect. As you can see from the pics I got Main Battery LOW as expected but I also got Closure M not sure what that means. I also got some lights on the bill acceptor anyone know how to run diagnostics on that ?
Thanks for everyone's helpJim

Be sure to remove that Green Varta battery. Being a 1270 board, you must remove regulator U16 also.

Check that battery pad where the holder broke off or was removed. Looks like excess solder there. Be sure there is no solder shorting to the large center gold pad, then install a new holder. CR2354 battery is correct. The conductive metal battery holder is positive + and the large gold pad on the board is negative -.

You're not going to get anywhere with the BV until it boots with a good battery. There might not be an issue. Keep fingers crossed until then.

Closure M is normal, it is just telling you that you closed the main door.

You guys lost me.. I got the board pad is negative and the holder is + it must only touch the 2 holes that solder it in.. makes sense. this is what I don't get

This part I don't get.. I have to remove the green battery also and throw it out? didn't it come with the board?? What was changed that I do not need it. Also I have to remove the U16 regulator??This might be getting over my head..LOL I found an s2000 board on ebay with the battery clip installed and it has the green battery also

Be sure to remove that Green Varta battery. Being a 1270 board, you must remove regulator U16 also.

The green varta battery WILL leak at some point and eat the traces under it, leaving you with a ruined board. Removing it now with U16 is the best cure.

There are others that explain this better than I can but I'll take a stab at it.

The green battery isn't necessary for home use. It powers some security circuits useful only to the casino. If left on the board the green battery will eventually leak and destroy the board. This battery is notorious for leaking and causing damage. Some boards such as the 1270 will not operate without the green battery unless you also remove the regulator. Believe me, I thought I was getting in over my head the first time I removed the battery and regulator on a 1270 board, but I followed the instructions posted on this forum and everything went well.

According to this post I should not remove the battery being a 1270 board??
"It all depends on what board you have.. 500 series it can be removed, 1270 enhanced needs it.."

That post was before one of our genius members found the U16 fix. But, do what you feel right for you. If you leave it, keep a good eye on it. Once they leak, you'll be replacing the board.

Thank you.. I do not want to have damage in the future so when I install the battery holder I will also remove the other battery and U16 regulator.  I just wanted to make sure I don't screw up the board. You guys are a wealth of knowledge.
