I have a Bally 809n that needs work.
« on: March 20, 2019, 07:53:15 PM »
I just got an 809n that has some problems. I don’t know a lot about the slot machine but am pretty handy at repairing things. I have been a major appliance technician for over 35yrs so I have a decent amount of knowledge on the mechanics of things. Would getting the “Owners Pictorial Guide” on the Bally Slot Machine by Robert N.Geddes give me all the information I would need to get it running again? From what the description reads it sounds like even a novice can understand the info it has in it. Does anyone have it and can say how detailed it would be for a newbie to get a machine up and running or is it still hard to follow?  I know the manual is not cheap so I hate to buy it if there are is something better out of there. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Welcome Scrubby:

Specifically to your question about the books, I have both books that you mentioned.  For me, and I am FAR from and expert, no one source is sufficient to solve all problems.  Buy the books because you are already infected with the Bally Bug.  Before long you will have 8 more games.

First. Post pictures both inside and out of the machine in question.  We like pictures.  Use several posts if needed to get all of the shots needed.
Second, Clean your contacts and connections,  lubricate where needed, change blown out bulbs and then report SPECIFIC trouble issues.  Hopefully there are none.

Third, Your best asset will be the fantastic men and women here on NLG.

Best of Luck

Ra

Welcome!
I was in your shoes about 6 months ago.  That book is excellent, and was my education.  I also found a video on eBay that wasnt bad either.  It was called Slot Machine Repair video DVD Vol 1 & 2 for Bally EM slot machines.  Good intro for the book.
This board has many educated individuals, so please keep this site bookmarked and visit often.  Even if a thread does not apply to you, read it, as it will come in handy one day for certain.
Good luck
E

Thanks for the replies. I’ll probably get that book and check out the DVDs. I’m not quite ready to delve into it as a project yet but when I get time I will post pictures if I can. I tried to send a picture from my iPhone on another slot I have but it said “file too large” so I don’t know how to do it. I’m glad I found this forum. A lot of knowledgeable helpful people! Thank you!

Yes each file you upload needs to be 1MB or smaller and I think if you have more than 1, the total must be less than 4 or 5MB.  Need to shrink them a bit. :)
Interested to see your other machine!

I have found out that if you email your self the pictures your trying to post from your IPhone, that it will give you the option of what size of a pic file you would like to send. This way when you receive then back, you can now post them here. I’ve been doing this for a while now.  Hope this helps, give it a try.
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...
