S+ code 43
« on: March 24, 2019, 04:47:18 PM »
I turned the machine on today and watched all 3 reels jump one notch, three different times, then got code 43. Nothing rubbing anywhere. Opening/closing door does not clear it nor does turning off and back on. I had replaced MPU and MB before from acid damage. Had been playing great. I can't imagine all 3 reels going bad at once for the 3 jumpy attempted spins.
Thank Ya Thank Ya Very Much.

It's not the reels....it might be a black IC triac component near the 4 main caps on the MPU causing irregular power routing.
I had to change it to repair one of my MPU's once that had the reel [41,42,43] codes.
Changing out the 3 of the 5 resistors on the other end of the MPU didn't end the reel errors that time but changing out the black triac did.
Badbaud gets all the credit for helping me out on that fix.
If it turns out that the door optics are okay, maybe he'll suggest you to send it in to him for repairs.
He knows more about the workings of an S+ board than I'll ever will.
Sometimes it's the reels drivers that cause the reel errors but because all 3 are acting up, it points more to the Q19 triac or power diodes.
I'll look it up tomorrow for ya and post it here.
In the photo below, you can see that there are only 3 driver chips installed but a socket for a 4th and opening for a 5th.
Different MPU revisions may have more filled...I have a several with 4 reel drivers.

I would concur with you that not all 3 reels would stop working.
When you get a 41,42, or 43 the reels run, and run, real slow until the error is cleared.

The failure of a resistor would manifest itself as a 41,42,43 and would behave with the slow reel turning.

To have them jump and stop is more indicative of failed door optics or perhaps the triac bunker pointed out.

One way to tell if the door optics have gone is to turn the reset key with the door closed. If you get into stats mode then the door is closed, if you get into other settings then the door thinks its open.

When you replaced your MB & MPU, did you inspect any of the plug connectors going to the MB for any acid damage or corrosion to the pins in those plugs. I know a person who have similar acid damage and had to replace a couple of those cables to get his machine working correct. It’s just a thought. They might not have looked bad before, but it’s possible you have a bad connection now..
Please remember to make a donation to NLG for mine/our help in repairing your machines problem.. Your donations help keep this site on line.
And remember...
If it's jammed, force it.. If it breaks, it needed to be replaced anyways...
