« on: April 02, 2019, 04:39:05 PM »
machine was working fine a few days ago, i actually had it up to around 160 credits when i turned it off. now when i turn it on the reels dont lock in like they used to and nothing comes up on the displays. almost like the board isnt installed. i havent touched anything since i last used it, i just checked battery voltage and its a healthy 3.6v. any ideas what went wrong and how i can fix? please help. thanks

so ive tried swapping out the board with a working machine and determined it isnt the motherboard. could the power supply have died on me? can i check the voltages at the plug on the side?

The harness from power supply to the motherboard has an oxidized ground pin.
With the power off, gently pull up the white  Molex motherboard connector a 1/16th of an inch.
When you turn on the power, the reels should come back to life.
If not, shake that Molex slightly from left to right as you gently rest the palm of your hand on the front of third reel strip.
You should feel power come to the reels as you move that Molex connector.

What you are trying to accomplish doing when slightly moving the Molex,  is trying to get the female pins to get a new contact onto the motherboard's male pins.

The 2nd female pin from the right is burning out.
You ether need new pins or a harness.

i gave that a try and no luck. i swapped the power supply out with a working one and it was back in business. could the power supply that powers the motherboard have burned out? i checked all the fuses and they are all good

It's unusual with the S+ machines, but as old az thoze are getting, 20+ years now, a bad power supply wouldn't be a complete surprise

When swapping out the power supply, you would have had to have moved that cable that connects the motherboard to the power supply.  Sometimes just the act of moving that cable and disconnecting/reconnecting it is enough to temporarily fix the issue.

While it's possible that your power supply went bad, that's real low on the list of likely suspects when it comes to S+ power issues.

I swapped the power supply into my other machine and the same issue so I've narrowed it down to the power supply being no good which is pretty strange considering it worked not too long ago

The only thing that goes wrong with them is :  either a fuse is blown, and you don't see up under the metal part where it is broke, ( test with a meter)  or the fuse caps go bad.
