Bb2 and bb3 problems
« on: August 02, 2019, 04:51:01 PM »
I just took out my bb2 cpu and installed my bb3 cpu - which I have done before many times. I did a ram clear, and loaded up Ruby Slippers 2, but when I got to configuration menu, I realized I had the dvi cables reversed - top monitor was bottom and vise versa. So I shut off machine and reversed cables. Upon booting up again, machine keeps stopping its boot up process with 1 Message - see photo below. I have run the ram clear several times, and tried booting up other titles, but I keep getting the same message below. Can anyone offer any advice?
[/size]Also, when I reinstalled my bb2 cpu and loaded a game, I get the error message “stacker switch open”. I reseated my cash box firmly, but no change. I pushed in the switch at the back of the cash box, but error message stays on. I think I may have clipped/loosened some wires when changing cpus,  but I can’t find them if this is the case. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Your screen shot is not much help because I can't tell what is happening before that. Sometimes the error where you think it stops, is not the cause, but rather something that happened way earlier during the boot process.  Check your cf card slots for bent pins.

Thanks for the feedback. Sorry to get reply so late, but was out of town over the weekend. I looked, and all pins appear unbent. I took more screenshots of loadup screens as they passed by, and will load them below. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

If I leave the system going, it reboots itself and eventually lands on the screen you see below. I believe this just means I would normally need a ramclear, but I thought I would post it anyway.

So I noticed the “failed to connect to MCP, aborting” appears several times. Does anyone know where the MCP is on the cpu and what might prevent a connection? Thanks!

I still cannot tell what is going on.  The MCP error is not the important part, the issue with the boot process on a linux OS is that there are many dependencies, so if something fails, it causes a cascading failure where everything doesn't work, the hard part is finding that cascade source.  Have you put your bb2 mpu back to see if everything still works?  I still cannot see what is causing the issue.  Although I don't see any reference to what game is being loaded. In all the screenshots, I see only mentions of the OS in use.  Have you tried loading another game?

Yes, I have tried 3 or 4 different games. I have put back in my bb2 cpu and it works.

At this point, then I would try another bb3 mpu.  Based on some of the messages, my best guess is that the NVRAM on the mpu has gone bad.  Again, it would be my best guess.

Thanks for trying to help. New development - now I get a no video signal message occasionally - sometimes right on startup, and sometimes after the initial boot screens. Before I try a different mpu, could this be related?

Well, signal to monitors is all mpu related, unless the monitor is having issues with the A/D board.  If the game is working fine with your bb2 mpu, then I would try another bb3 mpu. Do you know someone who could lend you one to try if you don't want to buy another one (although always a good idea to have a backup mpu while you can still get them easily).
