Printer comm error - no printer
« on: August 26, 2019, 03:52:12 PM »
I inherited a broken .25 double diamond 3 reel slot machine with the dreaded display NETPlex error.  Through searching this forum I was able to try an assortment of fixes including new varta and cmos batteries, new vfd, power supply, mpu, and the culprit..... the backplane board (the mpu and net plex data connections plug into it).   Any way after all that I am now past the net plex error.  Now the system self rests, reels test spin, and am getting a door closure M and printer comm error.   I’m assuming I need to disable the printer so   I tried a key chip 17 but instead of amber lights I get all the lights including the red blinking one.

I hope I just need a different key chip.  31 or 45 or what does anyone reccommend.

It is a 25 cent double diamond with speakers on the sides.  Mpu is a 1270 with legacy board add on.  SG00363
SB100054

Pictures included

I’m assuming since it doesn’t have a printer installed that i can just disable the printer as it has a quarter hopper.   Also would it be possible to install a printer so that cashouts just use tickets and knowing that I probably can’t use them for ticket in.    Note this is purely a for fun machine.  No winners or losers here just for fun.

Thanks!

I would've preferred to use a key 45 but I think the 17 should work. I can't recall if I've ever tried a 17 on a 1270. Flashing red light means something not right with a chip or the mpu. Could be a bent pin or chip inserted backwards. SG363 chips on a 1270 usually causes reel tilts at boot up. The printer does need to be disabled if it doesn't have one or you can install a printer & disable token payout if desired.

Either the 17 doesn’t work with this board (non-R) legacy board or the 17 chip is broken.  I can remove it and put the sb1000054 base chip back in and it boots right up to the printer comm error again.   If the 17 is incompatible. Will a key 31 work.  Or is a 45 necessary?  As I’m having troubles finding a key 45.

Thanks again!

A 31 will work but a 45 is more versatile. I can send you a 45 and a clear chip (IVC00224) if desired. PM me if interested.
