BB2 Printer Open Error - GEMS
« on: December 12, 2020, 12:04:51 PM »
So I've re-loaded Gems Gems Gems on my BB2 and run into two issues, the first was my button firmware 2.03 bin file now shows as Bad Image when I try to load it, but that resolved by just installing something else first to update the buttons.

The second, and lingering issue, is the machine shows a Printer Open error.  Printer will kick out a blank ticket just fine, shows a green OK indication, and will throw a second Printer Open error if I actually open the printer.  This is the first time I've actually tried enabling this printer so I don't know if it actually works.  Printer is Gen2, setting up as Netplex.  Unit will not perform a test print in diagnostics due to the open error.  I do not have the correct mounting studs for this printer and have placed a few screws with nuts to hold it securely.  Have the same setup in another machine that is fully operational.  The ticket bezel I'm using is not the standard bezel. Trying to toss out as much info as possible.  Is there an additional switch somewhere that I'm missing?

Any suggestions from the experts?  Love working on these things, but far too green to pretend to have any real clue.

Thanks

Make sure the printer drawer is pushed in ALL the way into the printer base.  If not you will get open printer door error.

The back of a printer housing has a small piece of moulded plastic that goes inside of the body when the printer is fully closed.
That little stick of plastic goes in between two optic eyes inside of the printer body which closes a circuit that tells the machine that the printer is closed.
Sometimes, the harness wiring back there gets in between there when the printer is open and either causes problems trying to close the printer or breaks the plastic nib.

Floor techs that know nothing about machines, try jamming in the printer back in after they put in a new pack of tickets.
Of course, they don't realize something fell in the way and they jam the heck out of it and bending/breaking the plastic stick.
You don't know about this either because you're asking and you could of broken it yourself trying to push the printer back in after working on the faceplate bezel.

The only way to fix this is to undo the the ribbon cable, push forward the tab lock under the front of the printer face, and pull it out of the machine.
That way you can verify if anything is broken back there....unless...you can stick your head way in back there and take a look with a flashlight?
I don't know, I never really stick my head in there....haha

Thanks gents.  I will pull the printer and inspect.  Good to know about the optical switch, had no clue.  I can't get my hands back there, let alone my head.

Must be my day for BB2 printer issues, my other machine is now showing Low Paper with a fresh stack.  (First time this one was enabled as well.)  It does function though.
