Testing a mother board
« on: September 30, 2014, 06:18:42 AM »
I have a Triple diamond single line 3 coin and I want to test the mother board out. I also have a Haywire s/l 3 coin that works perfectly. Both 10mhz MPUs. If I put the Haywire mpu in will it (or should it) make the triple diamond run as if it was a Haywire? I'm waiting on parts for the T/D mpu. I want to make sure the mother board is good so I don't put it all together and have to take it apart and replace the mother board after getting the mpu fixed. Thanks    Also the Haywire does not have a bv. The Triple Diamond does but won't it just treat that as the bv not enabled?

Yep, yep, and yep! You're on the right track! You will get an error (65, I believe) when you put the swap the boards, but no worries (since you know you caused it). At the top of the S+ board on here, there is a list of S+ error codes and how to clear them. Have that handy for reference and you'll be fine.

Thanks Ros, this is the board we talked about the other day. Cleaned up nicely. Kudos and thank you.

Hey, glad I could help! Some machines can really look rough inside, but with a shop vac and a little housekeeping, many still have a pulse!

It's supposed to be here today. I can't just drive to town and buy a battery of that type. It has to be ordered in. I didn't have a spare, I wasn't planning on buying another machine. But I see why everybody says they have a tendency to multiply. Mail gets here in the afternoon, I'll post results.

I would check with MCM Electronics or the like for the battery.

     Well I put the battery in and it's a no go. Turn the switch on and the reels turn very slowly about 1 round. The coin in meter occasionally clicks 1 more coin, but the 61 is in  the window but it it flickers not a solid number. I tried pushing the test button to get to 61 1 but nothing. I tried 3 times all with the same result. :Scratch-Head: So is it time to clear and set or ????? SP1048 game chip. Anyone know what clear and set for this? Thanks as always.

A flickering 61 could mean your MPU board is bad.

Did you try  it in another machine?

I have seen a bad regulator or main filter cap on the MPU board cause the flickering you see.

Also, All Electronics sells those 1/2 AA batteries with wire leads for $3.50 each.

Normally the MPU board will clear itself when a battery is replaced with the 61 and 65-1 setup options but in rare cases using a clear chip is the only way to get the board running.

If you have a bill validator you will also need a set chip.

Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

This was a board in the machine that had set so long the battery rotted off. Roz and I discussed it and I tried cleaning the mother board and mpu to get it working. Worked great on the mother board ( I tried a Haywire board in it ) but when I put the new battery in the mpu got the results above. I'm wondering if the topic solved icon is causing me less viewers. I think I might start a new post. So if you see this started again, we'll try another way. Thanks
