Can't get tilt to clear, 45 code, Bally 5000 plus
« on: June 19, 2016, 12:26:47 PM »
Ok, so I am messing with this unit I got for $100. I already had to replace the power supply with a MeanWell unit that "seems" to be a stable substitute except for the -12 which I cannot connect for some reason that it won't reset with it on, BUT I'm rambling sorry.

My REAL issue is that I get a 52 and 45 code along with 2 dots and 2 "JP"s on the screen. I see the JP's meaning that it paid and cleared the JP, but I cannot get it to clear the 45 code. Every time I turn the reset key all i get is the bookkeeping meters and can' seem to clear the 45 code. I started trying to do a ram clear but the best i get from that is that I get an 82 code which keys off fine, but then gives me my 52 and 45 again.
I did a reel diagnostic test and all reels work fine and go through the test for an hour with no errors. I also got a 31 code once instead of the 45 which i also couldnt clear. Hoping the MPU is not messed up!

ANy thoughts? I have 2 ram clear chips i bought on ebay but they dont seem to work. with them in, the 2 reset lights stay lit and flicker fast.
AM I able to post video here?

I know that the earlier Bally's, E1000 & E2000 machines had test and reset buttons on the hopper boards. I've never worked on the 5000 series, so I don't know it yours has the same. Do you see any other buttons on any other boards?

Yes, this one has a test, reset, and Pseudo coin button. I can enter the diagnostics menus fine with the test button and checked all the switches, hopper, reels and all seem good but can't get the error to clear for some reason.
My MPU has the piggyback board on it, so I tried the clear technique of pulling out the I/O board a bit, and powering on while holding the Pseudo coin button, but all I get is the game flipping the bookkeeping meters on and off by itself and acting odd. When I plug it back in I get an 82 code, which clears with the key and then I am stuck like before.
I see some corrosion around where the old battery was on the board but it's not too bad. Maybe I got some cold solder joints?? not sure what to do with it now.

I have the same problem with my machine. Is there a reset for this?
