Help with S+ 3-line American Pride payouts

I haven't worked on a S plus in years. Mine all just keep working...

Helping a friend of a friend who recently bought this three coin, three line S plus.  It appears to be RWB theme. The SS chip says "America Pride." The SP chip is 1048. After replacing the battery, clearing the code, and unjamming the coin that had fallen out of the CC, it initialized and operates. The problem is it's locking up to hand pay at odd combinations. I can figure out the hand pay part, but it seems it has the wrong SS chip or the wrong reel strips.  He bought it from someone who said "it worked" but we all know that can mean.  :banghead:

Looks like a RW&B 3 line clone.  Read the reel prom and look at the binary file in a hex editor to see what you have.  You could also pull out the reel baskets and have a peek at the reel strips to make sure they are in the proper order, they are usually labeled reel 1, reel 2, and reel 3 on the custom made themes.

I'll have him pull the reels and check.  I didn't even think of that.  :duh:
I'm hoping to get there tomorrow and I'll just pull the MPU board and bring it home to check the binary file. I'm tempted now to just bring a known good SS chip and try it out.

Comparing the PAR file to the reel strip symbols that are visible, it also seems like the 3rd reel is incorrect.  The White 7 followed by the triple blue bar is only supposed to happen in the 1st reel. The 2nd Reel looks correct, but the 3rd reel according to the PAR file does not have a sequence where the 3 blue bar symbol follows the white 7.  Also the payout between the  blue 7's and the white 7's is reversed according to the par file.  The payout of 4796 is also incorrect (should be 4800).  The other two huge payouts can be set to be progressive, so that could explain those.  So it may be more than a reel chip, he could have the wrong set of strips installed on the 3rd reel.  At this point, if you have a spare S+ kit you are willing to part with, I would take that along just in case reel strip 1 and 3 are the same in his machine, that way he/she could at least have a machine that pays and plays correctly.

I wonder why that line win pays out that amount? :scratch-head_3:

The game would need a modified SS chip to pay that out unless the glass is printed wrong.

Unfortunately the guy never called me back!!  :fryingpan:
I was trying to help him get it ready for a big New Years party at large shop.  He's got one other working machine though.
I had set aside time this morning to go over there but since he's not responded, it's going to have to wait now.
Embarrassing... I did know a lot of the troubleshooting but it would have taken me much longer to "re-remember," and I just don't work with machines as often as I did before. There's this "little" slot forum I help out on...
Anyway, thanks again. I'll report back ASAP on this.

Also without pulling chips you can get it to display the chip numbers in the winner paid / coins in.

I concur that that sounds like an odd number for a win. I would suspect that there were already credits on the system or a previous large coin win with a few credits missing.

4796 quarters is $1,199.00. Many casinos offer jackpots that pay $1199 to avoid having to issue a W-2G tax form to the player. A single win of $1,200 or more requires a tax form to be issued.  :yes:

If this was indeed in a casino, they must have commissioned a custom SS chip. Even if they just hand paid $1199 on what should have been a 4800 credit win, I don't understand how they could have offered 40,000 coins on what should have been a 10,000 coin win. The only way I could see them being able to offer that is if they had software that made it more difficult to hit the top award.

Mark (shortrackskater): if/when you work on this machine, can you use the method in the FAQ to have the machine display the SS chip number? Here's the link:
