Hey Yall!
Just wanted to write this up to share my experience. As I posted a while back, the husband wanted me to increase the payouts on our GameKing. These are the steps:
1. Buy a GKBDEV39 chip from RB
2. Take all the credits out of the machine and then power off
3. Take the MPU board out (N.B. The motherboard (also called backplane) is the board you slide the MPU board into.
4, Ground yourself by touching the metal case of the MPU board for 5s
5. Remove the old chip carefully (see [Motherboard and which chip to replace.jpg])
6.. Install the new chip in the MPU board. If you screw up like I did and bend a couple of pins, consider buying a socket carrier (
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KG4GDGY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and put the chip in that, and then put the socket carrier in the motherboard.
7. Push the MPU board back in HARD. If it is not in all the way you will get a black video screen
8. Push the little white reset button in while powering on the GK
9. When you come to the [Dev boot menu.jpg] screen, go ahead and
a. turn off the DSA and SHA checks under "Options".
b. Clear the RAM under "Ram Operations" - note you might be a message like [RAM error screen.jpg], it is ok just turn your attendant key to make it go away
c. Finally enable the non-WAP keychip under Keychip and hit restart.**
Note: I rebooted after 9a and 9b, you might have to do the same.
10. When you restart after picking the keychip you will get a slightly different "Keychip" menu. From there go to "Setup" > "Machine Options" and I think "Setup Games". You'll get a screen similar to my [Keychip not enabled.jpg] picture except the message "Keychip required to change" should be missing.
11. Changing the payout is unintuitive. There will be a button (sorry didn't take a picture of this part) to clear the settings for each game, do that and then pick whatever payout you want!
Then close it up and it should work!
Thanks so much to everyone for helping me get this going! You all rock!
Thanks to Tilt and sixcardmark for some minor corrections.
