BB3.2NXT Displays go dark right after Game Mgr loads. GPU Issue?
« on: November 27, 2024, 12:15:54 PM »
I've had probematic gpus in the 3.2 boxes before, but I can't remember what the failure point is. I'm assuming that if I get output from both displays up until the point GameMGR finishes loading, that the GPU is the issue.

Is that a correct assumption? :)

Thanks guys,
Marc

Video card issue most of the time.

Video card issue most of the time.

That's what I figured. Could PSU be an issue too? Customer says machine has been powered off for awhile (which makes me lean more towards that now...)

Weird behavior can also be traced to psu, but since the machine dies as the display tries to switch out of the game manager load screen into the graphics mode required for the game, it is most likely the video card.  That is usually what has happened in my experienced when faced with this same issue.

There also was a recall on E4690 video cards in NXT 3.2 CPU's.   WMS called it a "Service Bulletin".  lol

If it's an E4690, overcurrent protection circuitry on recalled cards would cause blank screens like that.

Easy to check the model number to see if it's included in this "Bulletin".

Worth checking to see if the card is in the affected ones.

In unlikely scenarios, the CPU-NXT3.2 OCP settings for the AMD video card revisions previous
to -04 (AMD part numbers 102-G0203-01, 102-G0203-02, and 102-G0203-03) could cause the
AMD video card to shut down because a peak current would prematurely trip the OCP circuit.
The issue has been resolved and the AMD video card has been updated in the current CPU
specifications. The revisions of the AMD video card (AMD part numbers 102-G0203-04 and
later) include the solution and are labeled to reflect the change.
