Changing coin mech
« on: May 07, 2019, 07:25:30 AM »
Hello I have a bally 809 that is currently working on quarters. I want to change it to nickels.  My question is can I just change the coin mech or does anything else need to be done?

Most likely the hopper would have to be changed or modified.
Nickels would ride to low in the coin elevator thus not engaging the coin pivot roller.
Although you could test run the machine with nickels in the hopper just see if it works.

Personally I prefer quarter machines.

You would also need a nickel spacer to replace the existing spacer. This spacer is located to the right of the coin drop switch.

Ironically I have a nickel machine I am converting to quarters.  Take some pics of the hopper, there are two styles with different plates.  If it is shaped like a star that is what I have.  To make it a nickel machine you need the hopper plate, coin mech, and spacer by switch.  That should do it.

Got an old quarter hopper that is converted into a coin counter.
It also counts nickels.

Thanks for the replies.  I  do have a nickel coin mech, put it in and it does accept nickels, however on a pay out from the hopper it failed to count the nickels and just ran continuously.   I  guess I  need the hopper plate as you suggested.  I will take pictures and attach later in the week.

You need a nickel hopper plate & nickel coin knife. Trade with fellow above sounds easiest.
I’d keep it a quarter myself...?
