Progressive Display Confusion
« on: February 21, 2016, 02:27:51 PM »
Happy Sunday NLG'ers,

I am really struggling with trying to establish which is the best option for a progressive display for my S2000. According to what I have been able to establish, my current game is progressive friendly.

I have been researching many recent posts, how to posts, archived posts on the old site, reached out to vendors, and to be quite honest I am more confused now then I was before I started my journey.

My question is, what option is the easiest? I have been told that I need another controller, others have stated that a Spectrum can be plugged directly into the Netplex board in the top cabinet. I'm having problems even finding one, much less trying to figure out which is the best route to go.

Any suggestions from those that have successfully completed this effort would be greatly appreciated.

- Eric

Easiest is the spectrum, rapid set up minimal install requirements. You can either put the display where the player tracking panel was or if you have the progressive glass for your game it will go there.
Downside it will just do the progressive.
Next would be a cham2 stand alone unit. Must be a stand alone unit or what they call a cham II plus. It is capable of the progressive and a scrolling message.
These are relatively easy to set up also. You will need a cham II plus unit, power supply and display. You will also need to fabricate a cable to program the chamII plus from an older laptop computer.
If you want to gang many S2000s together under one progressive you will need a con2i with a cham2 or supreme for each machine. Supreme's are also capable of driving large overhead displays.
Each of these are covered in the progressive section on this forum.

Rich,

Thank you for the reply and information. I gathered quite a bit of what you said already. My larger struggle is finding a good source for such a display, and making sure that I am not getting something that is not usable. I only want the display for the progressive and will be mounting it in the panel just below the top glass.

I have found a couple of displays that are listed as IGT Spectrum's, but they don't appear to have the harness. Those don't appear to be easy to come by for some reason. Regarding the Spectrum display, after all of the reading I have done, it sounded as if this device could be connected to the Netplex board in the top of the cabinet and change the settings as described in the multi-denomination progressive post, and that's all that was needed.

However, when I contacted a particular vendor, I was told that they had never heard of this and I would be required to run another board, which added to my confusion. Therefore, that was the original reason for my post.

I think I have 80% of the answers that I need, I am just missing the display, harness and confirmation that this is all that is needed if I am going to use the Spectrum display.

Thanks!

- Eric

The spectrum will be able to do different denominations from the same display. It is just in how you set it up. All you will need is the unit and one harness with 2 plugs to the netplex in your top box.(harness #60762102)
Each denomination will change to the correct progressive when you chose the denomination you are playing on the machine.
There is usually a guy on shebay that sells them for about $90.
Also see if you can get one with a SDF100 chip as they do a few more things with colors than SDF104. Not a big issue can always be changed out.

Awesome! Thanks again.... I found a Spectrum, which should be here in about a week. I'll let you know how things shake out.
