S2000 Buttons not working

I'm working on a S2000 that will boot and get to coin in Jam. I did a clear and when I get to the Key menu I can't go any farther as the buttons are dead. Also when the game boots the reels spin backwards. I tried swapping the I/O boards and nothing changed. The I/O in the machine are all 802 and I found another post that say's a 5 button should use the 800 or 801 so ordered the correct I/O.

This is a Double Diamond three reel. 5 line 25c machine.

Is there something else I should be checking or wait for the I/O?

I would assume the door I/o card would be the problem but all senet devices are chained together so any one of them could be bad and causing the problem. the big problem I am seeing is you say the reels spin backwards. I have seen this problem 3 times a few people claim its the cabinet i/o card but in my experience that has never been the case.

Has this machine ever worked? Button issues and coin in jam are door IO card related most of the time. Using 802 cards in a 5 button game is fine as they are backward compatible. Check all plugs, swiches and make sure nothing is shorted/everthing seated. When all is confirmed good, clear and key machine. If it is a muti-line game with the display to the left of the reels, be sure it is good also. A bad one can kill an IO card at power up

I swapped both the I/O cards with working cards and no change. I went thru all the connections unplugged and checked for bad or loose pins and all looked good. I cleared the machine and got to the key chip configure and can't make any changes. The buttons are all dead.
This machine has not worked since I got it. Any other ideas?

Vtylor  You have seen the reels spinning backward, What did you find caused it?

I had that problem before, (reels spinning backwards, no buttons worked)   it was the door I/O card, it wasn't bad, it was the wrong I/O card.

Never found what caused it replaced all electronics with known working parts tested questionable parts in working machines parts all tested good. just assumed a short in the harnes was to blame because that is literally the only thing i did not replace. All 3 machines got parted out. I know there are a few parts on mpu that go bad cause senet problems u can try a new board. U can also check any decices that interface to a senet card (hopper, handle, displays, candle). If your saying your boards are all the wrong number i would not mess with it till u got the new/correct board in. Will also add my 3 machines i had this problem with were all from the same seller and casino so were probably damaged the same way.

Thanks for the information, I have the correct cards coming so I'll wait and see. I already swapped the cpu and mother board and had the same problem. If this doesn't do it I guess it's a parts machine!

Have you tried running it with the reel light control board unplugged?

Try checking or unplugging as many of the senet devices u can first. I have also seen strange problems caused by the gme chips. I see u have 598s i normally only use then on enhanced machines i have the best luck with 363s

This machine does not have backlit reels. I removed the candle, handle, all lights, printer, bvd, even swapped the power distribution board all to no avail.
Guess I'll wait on the cards and go from there.

I only ever use 598s in inhanced 5reel machines. i normally use 363s in everything including some inhanced unless i get reel problems.

Well I put in a set of 363 and guess what, same problem.
