I started thinking you might have an older S+ and thus the button is on the board tray.

I see you have a side mounted bill unit,  I would unplug this and try and get you machine doing normal things,  I have never heard of the procedure that you used to get the reels to spin. ( turn the reset switch, press the bet one button)  I see the spin button is lit, what happens if you press it??

pushing the white test button located mid way down the front of the card cage assembly does??

Hi Jim,
I disconnected the bill Validator. Powered up, and got the 0 same as before. I pressed the white button and heard a ding. Display is still showing “0”.
As for the reel spin, I stumbled on to that!
Power on, hold jackpot reset key for a few seconds, then there’s a click.
Hold the bet one credit button for a few seconds, then press spin reel.
It spins the reels and stops backwards (right to left) in the same result each time. I have since I posted, also noticed that if you press spin or pull the handle 4 times it will spin again (and every 4 times).

Thanks for your help! Any further suggestions?

A normal start up for this machine is to just turn it on and see what happens, with the door shut and latched, turning the reset key will put you in the accounting mode, each time you turn the key it will display a new set of numbers and the number in the coins played window will change each time you turn the key, depending on you SP chip, after the number 7 it will take you back to the idle mode (or actual problem code), some SP chips require you to go to number 12 before you get back to the idle mode!.  try this and see what happens.

If you can't get to that point , either the motherboard or cpu board have issues.

Just curious, what other issues did you fix after replacing the battery??

The jackpot reset was missing, and the wires were cut.  A lead was broken off the door optic sensor, so I replaced that. The candle was broken.
Besides that, just cleaning!

Looking back at the picture of your board, I see there is no label on the game prom. Open window. Maybe it erased itself. The thing that throws me is the clear not counting down. How bad was the battery? Had it leaked all over the place? If yes, did it get on the mother board too? It makes no sense where your zero is. It should be in coins played

The battery was completely dead. It hasn’t leaked at all. There is no corrosion. What you are saying seems possible, any suggestions as where I should go to buy a game chip?

I read a post here from a few years ago where a member had the same 0 in the winner paid window. However, his machine did work. Mine doesn’t seem to do anything. I don’t think his issue was resolved.
So I possibly have more than one issue here. I am gonna look and take some better pics, Iwill post later.
Thanks!

At this point it is chip issue or MPU issue. Your SP chip could be erased and SS may have bent pin

Therockinelvis,
I had a close look. No bent pins. I took a few pictures.
I’m thinking of trying a game chip next.

the reset switch only has two wires going to it, and they are not polarity sensitive.  the cabinet  optic is a little different, make sure you got the right one,   should have  red and white wires on it.   make sure the cash can  door switch is also bypassed.

The jumpers should be set as in the pic attached. If you are using an old 256kb SP chip instead of the newer 512kb SP chip you need to move the jumper next to the SP socket.

Therockinelvis! Thank ya, thank ya very much!!!
I got a new game chip and reel chip. I tried them today and YES! You were correct, perhaps this one sat long enough with a dead battery that the eprom erased. Game fired up as normal, and It’s working.

I got a few other small issues to work on, but I am going to tag this post as solved because the display is now working fine.

I guess I owe you a cold beer!

THANKS TO YOU ALL!
