IGT S+ Sizzling 7s lights up, but coins fall through
« on: November 10, 2021, 10:15:57 AM »
Well, here I go with a first post. I've had this machine for quite some time, but have had it off for the last few years. Retired so I have time to fix. Both lights flash on top, the amber bottom about twice as fast as the white top one. They start out after a reset, both flashing at the same rate. The coin drops through.

Where should I start?

Rhodes in Georgia..

Turn the sensitivity control on the coin comparator fully counterclockwise.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Coin falls out.... consider it a win !!  :duh:

I would also try replacing the sample coin. I am not sure if its simply reseating the the coin or the one there has been impacted by the magnets in the comparator but this often fixes it for me.
I also use tokens which have less metal quality than a real quarter etc.

Do the coins fall into the hopper or the coin tray?  Does pressing the tiny white button on the coin optics under the coin comparitor give you a credit?

Straight through to the tray, not the hopper. No credit is given.

Reseated, tried several coins, no change. This was my late mom's favorite past time, hauled it from their house in Texas to mine. It worked until it didn't. No new variables introduced, just one day...  :Scratch-Head:

Also, didn't see a white button. Here's a picture.

I've got a manual, I think for this machine. Trying to figure out the codes (and how to get pictures to appear upright).

It's square and is right by the orange connector.  Coin comparitor is rejecting before it gets to optics if they are falling into tray.

Found it, pressed, no change in status, no credits given.

Are you seeing any codes in the LED display?

Reading the manual I have now, to try to interpret the codes. Here's the manual, it may or may not be the right one. Also using the "sticky" on this forum to figure it out. This thing won't beat me..

Try wiggling the small two grey wired Molex connector on the coin comparitor.

That sometimes gets oxidized and causes the rake to get stuck in a closed position.

I attached a photo below this Reply with a yellow arrow showing you which one I mean.

The "rake" is behind the coin comparitor and directs coin flow.

Wiggling the connector housing sometimes allows the female contacts inside get a fresh connection.

If it still doesn't let coins get thru the coin-in optics sandwich, you can just remove the rake altogether if you want.

You can do some reading in the S+ area of NLG to find out how to remove certain chips on the optic circuit boards for better coin acceptance.

Another thing you can try....>>>

Take apart the coin-in optics below the coin comparitor.

There's a special black plastic insert guide where the coins fall thru that have corresponding holes on each side of it.

Because it is sandwiched between two circuit boards, there are optical eyes that need to "see" thru the holes...make sure they aren't blocked with dust or debris.

I'm assuming that you're using quarters for coins?

Make sure the optic guide with the holes allows the quarter to cover at least two of the three holes.

There would be a plastic "wall" in the guide that directs the coins to cross over the optical holes.

Some casinos used really large coins instead of quarters and the "wall" inside the coin decoder insert guide isn't even there.

It's not needed because the coin is so large and breaks the optical beams quite easily.

If you're using nickels, they're not large enough to cross over the holes and breaking the optical beam to "count" or "see" the coin pass thru.

The coin-in optics comes apart pretty easy...just a few Philips screws and snap a photo of the optic guide.

We'll be able to tell you if you have the right one.

I also attached a photo of the Q2 chip that is removed from the optic board for better coin acceptance.

Click on any photo to enlarge if needed...>>>

I'll give these items a try today. I've read the stickies, the manuals printed, but still am a little lost, but determined.

Yeah...just wiggle the grey wired connector there on top of the CC ( coin comparitor) for now.

I don't want you busting off circuit board components when you don't know much about your machine just yet...let's stick with the easy fixes for now....lol

If wiggling the grey wired connector doesn't work, we can try to do some coin-in optic tests to see if it works as in this topic...>>>
