Games of Nevada - Won't stop spinning
« on: May 18, 2024, 03:52:09 PM »
Hey Folks, I finally retired and now working on all those "projects" I've been saving up. I last posted here back in 2020! And I received a lot of great info from "63mini", "SolidSilver", "Op-Bell" & "Slot Tech Mike".  :hail:

I did do some additional research and found a GON discussion in the 2016 archives before posting but didn't find anything that helped with the issue I'm having.

The machine is a dollar slot that accepts Susan-B and full-size dollars. The issue I'm having is that when powered up, it continues to spin without pulling the handle or inserting a coin. Mine also has the "free spin" toggle switch on the phenolic stepper board as described in the 2016 thread. (see pic) However, it doesn't seem to change anything when moving it. Additionally, while getting back up to speed on this from 2020, I found some old notes that reminded me that when I got the machine, the previous owner stated that a couple of the relays had fallen out and he stuck them back in where he "thought" they went  :Scratch-Head: .

That said, I'm wondering if perhaps someone that has one of these in working condition may be able to provide me with a list of the relays and which location they are inserted? (see attached pics)

Any additional info/advice/suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance, Lance

Yes, replying to my own post... lol

After looking closer at the relays, it appears that there are only two types and they are not interchangeable. Therefore I don't believe they can be installed incorrectly. Next step is bench-testing them all for proper functionality. (Apologies for not investigating a bit more before the previous post)

I do however have another question for the group; The handle on this can be pulled at any time. I.E. power off, no coin-in, etc. (see pic) Based upon my experience with other slots, I think there should be a mechanical lock-out system for the handle. I can't imagine a machine was designed so that the handle could be pulled at any time? Or perhaps the mechanism was removed by the previous owner to allow "free" play?

Any thoughts?

Thanks! Lance

The handle on these pull the same on or off, with or without power. It just makes the contact for the reels to start, but should only start them after a coin is inserted.
I believe the switch at the top of the reel randomizer is a maintenance switch. It's definitely not a free play switch on mine.
Wish I could help more. Did you get the reels to stop?

Hi,

Thanks very much for the response, nice to put that question to rest.

Yes, I was able to get the reels to stop. I actually found that the bracket for the contacts at the top of the timer unit was bent and causing them to make contact. (see pic) Unfortunately, it's still not working properly. I've completed bench-testing all the relays and have new capacitors but haven't replaced them yet. At this point I'm not sure the coil on the timer unit is working.... next on the list.  :Scratch-Head:

Any additional thoughts/advice would be welcome!

BTW, do you have one of these machines?

Thanks again, Lance

I do have one. It's a quarter jumbo Money Bell. Same mechs as you have in your pictures.
That leaf switch stack in your picture was the cause of my problem as well. Took me forever to figure it out. When you coin up, the pin with the round end pushes the switch stack up from the bottom. If proper contacts aren't made at that point, it keeps on spinning in circles and if you spin the reels, they just keep spinning unless you stop them manually by pushing the coil on the unit three times. Each time you push it it stops a reel.
I have never messed with any of the relays. Seems whatever goes wrong in these, it's always been mechanical. The coil can certainly be tested.
I have a limited understanding of the machine but let me know how it goes. Feel free to ask me any questions. I'm retired as well and I may be able to help.
Randy

Hi Randy

Ain't retirement great!!

Very much appreciate the offer to bounce some questions off of you. I know I'll have some once I get back to messing with it. I'm in Seattle so the "indoor" projects are currently on the backburner. Once summer is done, I'll have about NINE months to work on it! LOL.

Regards, Lance

I reached out to 63Mini, and Mike to see if they can add anything here.
Sadly Op Bell passed last year and SolidSilver (Jim) has not been on for years now. Jim was a GREAT member, and always fun to chat with. I don't know if he is with us anymore.

I lost 10 points for being in the right place at exactly the wrong time -

Hi Mark,

Assuming you're referring to "Slot Tech Mike", I've had a number of direct communications with him as he has a similar machine. He's been an AMAZING source for support and information!

Appreciate you reaching out to some other folks on my behalf.

~Rayydio, These are "70's" vintage....
