Bally Alpha S9000
« on: September 04, 2024, 09:08:25 PM »
Hello, I just picked up a Bally Alpha S9000 (I think) and the batteries are dead.  I have ordered new batteries and they should arrive tomorrow,  but do I have the right clear card.  Please see the attached pictures showing the machine and the cards I have.

I have also noticed that the machine does not have a bill acceptor or cash box.  Is it possible to set these up for free play?

Note that there is another battery on the backplane that you will see if you pull out the mpu.  It is between the 2 backplane connectors and it is a CR2032.  You should replace that as well.

Thank you all for the support and assistance.   I have replaced the batteries and am working through a few remaining issues.

1.  I am getting a main door open error.   It looks like the connections to the switch are incomplete but I am unclear on how to hook it up.  See attached image of switch.  Does anyone have a schematic?

2.  I wasn't sure which item to choose when I configured the printer.  It is clear I chose the wrong one because I am getting an error.   But I didn't see a selection that matched seiko gen2.

3. I need to look at getting a TITO.  I am assuming it doesn't have one and someone took the cash box/bill validator out.....but I suppose I should check if there already is one.

Has your Printer worked before? It may have the incorrect firmware which happened for me, Mine had S6000 Firmware for some reason. As for the door switch try removing the 2 cables from the switch itself and see if it goes into "Please Wait, Performing Memory Check"

And for TITO, I'd recommend "TITO @ Home" for how easy installation it is.

Thanks for the continued help.  I pulled the printer further out and have confirmed that it is a Future Logic type.  However,  I also noticed there is a red light indicating a fault.  I just got this machine so I can't say if this printer recently worked.  Is there a way I can tell what firmware is on it, by a sticker/label or something?

I have the door issue resolved now.  I had thought the M door error was only for the lower door but it is also for the middle door.

Hold the feed button on the printer with the cabinet/machine power OFF, then turn the power on continuing to hold the feed button until the printer prints out your info.

Since you have a Gen2 RS232 the firmware should be GRUSA561C35. Sometimes that sticker isn't always what it says it is.

Added message, your best options for a bill validator are MEI or JCM. The key difference is that MEI/MARS will make noise and come online the second the cabinet receives power. As for where JCM will only begin communications once you have selected AND saved as JCM in Device Setup when programming the machine per se after doing a clear. When getting those you also need to check the firmware for it and make sure it is for Bally Alpha.

Thanks for the advice.   I tried holding the feed button with the power off, then powering the machine on and holding the button.   I can hear the printer trying to do something but the paper is not feeding.   I am wondering if I am not feeding the paper in properly.   This is my first machine with a Future Logic printer.

The sticker on the printer says GRU561C35.

Make sure the black rectangles on the paper are facing up and going in first. Check your rollers too by pushing on the grey lever and clean off the rollers if the first part doesn't work.

I tried the feed button thing again and the paper still will not feed.  But this time the green light on the printer came on.  I am still getting a couple of printer errors on the machine though.  It sounds like the printer is trying to feed the paper but the rollers aren't spinning.

Here is a video where you can hear it:

From what I’m hearing and seeing, the printer is probably extremely dirty or the rollers may need some WD-40. If those don’t work you may just have a bad Printer then.

In the event that you have to replace the printer. I’d recommend a FutureLogic Gen2 Universal. Uses a different harness but has added USB support.

Thanks for the help.   I decided to configure the printer off and just set the machine up for free play.

Hey! Did you ever figure out the door wiring? If possible, could you take a picture of how your cables are ran and where they plug into? My dad and I have been chasing a door open error for a week now and we can't find any information online... Your help would be greatly appreciated!!!

It turned out it was the belly door.  I was thinking it was the bottom door, but it turned out they are both checked, and the latch on the belly door was missing.  Once I added that, the error went away.  I can take pictures of both switches later if you need it.

I could use some pictures on how and where the cabling is ran to.

Are all the wires connected to one switch, then that switch connects to that plug? Sorry for asking so many questions, our machine came in pieces it seems... Perhaps went through a tornado.

I'm glad to see you're active on here. I've been trying to collectively get as much information out of these machines as I can.
