I need help getting Hitchcock working on bb2 ;
« on: October 28, 2024, 09:01:29 AM »
I will try to upgrade pictures. First off, I’ve read the existing posts about this issue but it was all Greek to me and didn’t really help. If anyone does have a solution, please explain it to me like in 5 years old. I don’t understand a lot of the tech terminology.

So I have a BB2. I swap out the cpu/mpu with the bb1 which has worked flawlessly. But I recently bought the tse top box so I could run some of the bb1.5 dual screen games. All work great except Hitchcock. At first it gave an error so I changed out the bios chip to v2000. That allowed it to install. But now I’m getting the Single Row Universal Animator
Command Timeout error.

From what I read this has to do with the Hot Hot button, which I do have.

I’m not sure if that button is working. It does nothing when I push it for any other game. All of the other buttons work though.

I also noticed a 8 pin (I think) cable not plugged in anywhere but it’s labeled SPN. It looks to be coming from the monitor area maybe.

If anyone can tell me what to order or what to do to get Hitchcock working, I’d appreciate it. I’ll attempt to put up pics to see if that will help.

The back of your extra bet button should have a little pcb on it with what looks like an ethernet port (this is the spn bus).  You connect an enthernet cable from there to the the spn hub (if you have one) or directly to the spn connector on the backplane (top right).  You will also need to supply power.  If you don't have an spn hub, you will need to supply 5v to the 2 pin molex connector.  I don't remember which pin is + on it, I would have to go pin out my cabinet to see if no one else chimes in.

That’s too technical for me. lol. I couldn’t add pics before but I’m going to try again. I saw other threads and pics there but my machine didn’t look the same so I’m still at a loss. Maybe you can look at my pictures and dumb it down for me. Or even include pics.

One end of that plug goes on the SPN hub, the other goes on J16 on the backplane.

Where would I find the SPN hub?

And I did plug the one end to J16 (something was already there but I unplugged it).  Still didn’t help but I guess I need to see if the other end was plugged in anywhere at all.

The SPN Hub is usually on the door close to the button panel,

Follow the ribbon from the extra spin button, this should go to a small board, the spn cable goes from this board to the hub.  The other end of your 8 pin plug goes into the hub.

Trace that cable out, where is it going?

I don’t have a ribbon (I saw a picture in another thread about this same subject but mine doesn’t look like that).  I’m attaching a pic of what I see on my extra spin button. Not sure if mine is different because it’s on a bb2 and not a bb1. I am using the bb1 mpu but it’s a bb2 cabinet.

As for tracing the cable/wires….i tried but everything is bundled and I can’t see where this particular set goes. Probably to the door. I’m not seeing same color combinations anywhere else.

You can see the ribbon cable coming from the button and going to the small board in this picture.

It sounds like you are missing this board?  I believe it is needed for the button to be functional.

You also need to either supply power to this board or power it through the SPN hub which is powered through the J16 Harness.
