IGT game king crt monitor replacement/repair
« on: November 25, 2024, 08:12:09 PM »
Hi,

I have a crt monitor that has a crack and the touch is off even after calibrating the touch multiple times. I was wondering if there is a "Cheap" way to repair it or install a new monitor. When doing a search online it seems there is replacement screens but they are 600 dollars+ which isn't even what the machine would be worth. Let me know if you have any ideas. Maybe its possible to just use the screen without touch and leave it as is.

Thanks,

I’m assuming the crack is in the touch panel and not the monitor.

Maybe you get lucky and someone here has a parts machine or replacement touch panel. If the game is setup and running it can be played with the buttons only. No need to touch screen.

The touch panels can be replaced. I have done a few, its pretty straightforward. You just need to know what monitor you have and what brand touch panel, its best to keep the controller intact and just replace the panel. Sometimes the machine doesn’t even notice and it just works.

Hi, I have attached an image of the crack. How would I know if it’s just on the touch screen part and where would I order the touch screen to replace? Also I hope there is a guide to replace it.

Thanks,

The only way to know what's wrong to take it out and disassemble the monitor.
In your photo, one can clearly see that the outside panel is cracked.
What you don't see is that only until you take the monitor apart, if anything else is cracked.
Here's hoping the outside panel is just a protective plain panel of clear glass, and not the actual touchscreen panel because touchscreen panels have several circuit traces in their corners.
Those circuit traces are etched onto the edges of the touchscreen glass and is what creates the touchscreen capacitive sensing field.
If the circuit traces are cracked too, that means that they're open traces and the electronic field is either gone or awry.

There are 4 wires attached to the digitizer…in the corners! Its possible that crack removed that contact point from the circuit. Its a lot of work to remove a digitizer and try it only to find it didn’t work. My assumption is that you will replace the entire glass panel, I don’t know any way to replace just the film.

Yes, I think one or two of us did tutorials on replacing them. Here is one I did.

Yeah...below I've attached a photo of a 3M Touchscreen from a IGT AVP G23 MLD monitor.
You can see the etched circuit traces they put on the edges of the touchscreen (digitizer) glass that makes the capacitive touch field.
However, those traces are hidden under the black plastic Moulding in your photo, and if any of those traces are broken, that would cause major touchscreen problems.

Thanks for the guide chris. It’s an upright gameking. Is it possible to reconnect a connection that may have gotten loose when it cracked or is it dead for good. I’m not sure if I should even follow the steps until I have a donor screen to replace. I’m located in dfw area in tx.

Thanks,

Yes, user Justin re-connected a wire that was broken on a touch panel I sold him. I didn't know why the monitor was pulled from the game and given to me, I just knew it was on my shelf. Turns out one of the wires was smashed between the two pieces of glass (from the original assembly) and eventually broke the wire. Justin soldered the wire together and the digitizer came to life.
If only the glass is broken you might give it a shot. If the coating is cracked too I doubt it but if you can re-connect the trace it will work.

Mark, thanks for posting that picture, it helps visualize how these work.
