S+ Progressive Set up Help Needed
« on: March 30, 2025, 05:02:26 AM »
Picked up an S+ with progressive.  I downloaded dosbox and psp. I have the cable needed. I've set up a bally 6000 before, but can't remember how. It was a long time ago and I know there's alot of steps involved. I also forgot the changes that have to be made in psp, and how to open it in dosbox and the password needed. I know there's a few posts, but not many with an idiots guide made for me.
Any help appreciated!!

Password to PSP is 135642

I am going to assume your using a newer laptop and your using a USB to 9pin adapter.
Once you have that cable plugged in you need to use control panel / device manager to determine what com port it’s decided to assign itself. Generally speaking they default to com3: You will need to change this to use COM1 or COM2 as that is the only two ports that PSP can use.

Once installed DOSBox has an options tool. It basically opens a notepad page of the config file as an editor. By default the com settings in this file are set to null modem. You need to change this to COM1
I will dig out my “slot” laptop and look at the syntax of this for you.

When dosbox starts it loads its mini OS to a virtual drive Z: and does not know about your hard drive so you need to mount that.

At the bottom of the file there is a place to add autoexec.bat commands.
You will want to add MOUNT C: C:\PSP

Here is the serial section of the DOSBOX options file.
The # are just comments and are in the file by default.
The salient lines are the ones I have highlighted.

[serial]
# serial1: set type of device connected to com port.
#          Can be disabled, dummy, modem, nullmodem, directserial.
#          Additional parameters must be in the same line in the form of
#          parameter:value. Parameter for all types is irq (optional).
#          for directserial: realport (required), rxdelay (optional).
#                           (realport:COM1 realport:ttyS0).
#          for modem: listenport (optional).
#          for nullmodem: server, rxdelay, txdelay, telnet, usedtr,
#                         transparent, port, inhsocket (all optional).
#          Example: serial1=modem listenport:5000
#          Possible values: dummy, disabled, modem, nullmodem, directserial.
# serial2: see serial1
#          Possible values: dummy, disabled, modem, nullmodem, directserial.
# serial3: see serial1
#          Possible values: dummy, disabled, modem, nullmodem, directserial.
# serial4: see serial1
#          Possible values: dummy, disabled, modem, nullmodem, directserial.

serial1=directserial realport:COM1
serial2=dummy
serial3=disabled
serial4=disabled

[autoexec]
mount c c:\psp
c:

Well, I got as far as the password, then I'm stuck. It won't let me in. 135642, I hit enter. Nothing happens. I tried f8 after the password,  nothing .

I'm using an older laptop that I've used before to set up a bally 6000 progressive,  and it worked fine. Same laptop. Dosbox and psp were still on it from when I last had to do this, and that's about 2 years ago. I'm using a USB connection on the laptop side and a 9pin on the other. It wasn't plugged in when I was putting the pin number in. Does that matter?

after the password it says on screen to hit F10.... unless your using a different version of PSP.
V2 is the correct version to use with the ChamII that are in your machine.

The question however .... is this a ChamII or ChamiII+
The latter is standalone, while the first requires a CON2 supercontroller to make it work and the 9pin interface will not respond.
