IGT S plus - Reel code 43

Well...Getting reel errors to display like that with two numbers is shot down because I have an SP731 GAME prom in mine and I don't get those numbers. 

He meant to pull off the white Molex connector plug from underneath the reel shelf off of reel #2 and reel #3.
Now swap the Molex connectors (Put the red #3 onto the middle reel and the middle reel plug onto the 3rd reel.) and then turn ON the power switch.
Tell us what you get on the display.

Since you have a SP731 chip, open door, press the test button until you see a number 4 in the coins played window, if the bulb is good, the spin reels button should be lit, press it one time, the ss and sp chip numbers should be in the winner paid and credits window respectively, the reels should spin and the three jackpot symbols should be on the payline, with the top payout for max coins and for one coin payout in the same windows. Each time you press the spin reels a new winning combo will be displayed along with its payouts.
If the machine will do this without failure then the reels are working as advertised!
At this point, clearing your machine may cure the problem.

That is just a heatsink.
If the component has 3 legs you can check it for shorts using a digital voltmeter.

I’m am unable to locate a test button. From what I found it should be next to the power switch but it’s not there. I will download the s flip cards and see what I can figure out. Thank you.

You were correct!! The button was behind the switch and I followed your directions. Every time the “spin reels” was pressed each wheel landed on a pay line. I also found during this testing process I now have a code 45_3. It had changed from the original 43 to 44 and now a 45.

Have you tried to see if the machine will accept a coin?

Have you tried to put a credit on the machine using the tiny push button on the coin optic board with the door open?

I have tried a coin and it drops thr to the trayu and I have not tried the button on the coin board. I can try that when I get home this evening.

I found the coin button and when it’s pressed it’ll register a coin and I can push the reel button and it lands on a jackpot. When I close the door I get code 45 again. That indicates reel 5 error but I don’t have 5 reels. Would you have another idea I can try?

Its good you found the micro test credit button.

You need to find the white reset button much much larger and rarely hidden.
This should let you clear the code.
The common places are top right hand corner or by the power switch.

The S+ is capable to have 5 reels.
In the top right hand corner of the MPU board there are 5 resistors. Each one represents a different reel.
Typically the first 3 resistors show some burn (heat damage) and the other 2 are pristine.
In past I have moved one of the good resistors over to replace a bad resistor that fell apart when I touched it.
Even with the missing resistor I didn't get a 45.

I would try the coin button test again, pay attention to what happens, press the button for the max credit ( 2 coins or 3 coins). If you get a winning combo, see if it put the correct credit on the display. Then close the door, the credits should go away. If so then your door optics are indeed working.

I did ask you to clear the machine, I guess you missed that request, either use a clear chip or remove the CMOs chip and rub the legs of the chip on a metal surface, insert chip, clear 61 code and see what happens.

Thank you for all the replies. I did miss the previous message about clearing it and I’ll try that when I get home this evening and find the other button. I was messing around with the test mentioned earlie and I press the coin switch and give myself 3 credits and then spin the reels. When this happens, the game works as intended. Each time i pressed the reel button, it would spin. Not always on a winning line and when it did, my credits went up. Seemed like it was working normally. When I closed the door it goes blank and then appears error 45.

You need to use the test button to start the clear procedure.
