Capcom Bowling Loses Settings when powered off
« on: April 28, 2015, 07:22:25 AM »
Looking for some insight......acquired a basket case 1988-89 Capcom Bowling arcade.....blank screen, butchered wiring, etc.......anyway, got it up & playing with LCD  & stuff but I keep losing game setting everytime I power off & back on.................the 1/2 AA battery showed 3.06 volts but I went ahead and replaced it anyway ( the previous solder may have damaged the trace lines, not sure).........if I program the settings the way I want ( free play, skill level, zero out high scores, etc) it plays great.......if I power off then back on it returns to factory setting ( coin play, skill level 4, and reverts back to previous high scores)........its an Incredible Technologies pcb, # 1010, with 1988 chips in it.............graphics are good, play is good, sound is good...........any advice?

The "battery" in the lower left hand corner should be checked. Some have a capacitor, some have a 3v battery, but if it loses its voltage, the settings will go away.

There is another way to fix it though.

I have replaced the 6116 RAM chip (lower left corner) with a NVRAM chip:

You can then eliminate the battery altogether.
