Looking for help with S2000 Triple Diamond tilt issue
« on: March 21, 2014, 12:45:57 PM »
My brother-in-law's  S2000 machine keeps throwing a "general reel tilt" code.  Sometimes you're able to play 5 or 6 games before it tilts, other times it will tilt out on the 1st play.  It's not always one reel that starts the "slow spin".  It can be all three, the third reel, or the 2nd & 3rd.  I'm able to reset the machine by opening the door, then turning the jackpot key.  I tried swapping out the reels one at a time with reels from a working machine.  Disconnected the reel harness & re-connected it.  Pulled the MPU board, removed whatever chips I could and re-seated them.  All of this made no difference.  Coin battery checks out at 2.71V, but I don't think that's the problem since there's no "low battery" message.  I don't much about these IGT machines.  Looking for some direction as to what to try next.  Machine model # is 96438300.

At 2.7v the coin battery needs replaced. I would also check door optics for alignment to see if it resolves the reel tilt issue.

Thank you for your for your response.  I have two questions:
#1) Will replacing the battery necessitate re-programming the machine?
#2) How do I verify door optic alignment?

Replaceing the battery does not requier reprograming the machine, the only info you will lose is credits currently on machine and acounting info. As far as checking door optics I'm not to shure I always bypass the optics there are instructions on how to do that at the top of this topic board.

Door optic alignment 95% of the time.
Try operating the game with the handle lifted slightly (1/8 inch) If the game plays OK like that lower the optic by an 1/8 of an inch on the cabinet. Then try with handle all the way down. If OK your done.
If it does not work with handle lifted 1/8 inch then raise the cabinet optic by an 1/8 on an inch and try again with handle all the way down. Assuming the game has been operating in the past this would be the maximum I would move the door optics.

To adjust door optics from scratch place a piece of masking tape on the outside of the door and cabinet where the optics are located. With the door open lower the handle and mark a line on the door where the center of the optic is located. Close the door, lower the handle and then continue the line you drew on the door to the tape on the cabinet. Now just open the door and slide the cabinet optic to match the line you drew on the outside of the cabinet. Then if required finish adjusting by using the first method above. In some cases I have had to put a spacer under the door optic to get proper operation.

And like cowboy said at 2.7 volts it's time to change the battery.

Hope this helps
Rich

You may also want to make sure the belly door(below button panel) is staying closed electronically.
There is a switch in upper left that can cause general reel tilts if an open door is seen by the game
while reels are spinning.

Replace the BATTERY and save your hair!  :pull_hair: :pull_hair: :pull_hair:  Anything under 2.8 will throw crazy errors and will make you crazy!!!! If the game was operating correctly, leave the optics alone (if its not broke, dont't fix it!!). Keep it Simple...
