Internal Progressive
« on: August 17, 2015, 05:50:19 AM »
Any ideas as to where the Internal Progressive Controller is actually located in the Alpha S9000E machines? I have a Triple Blazing 7's w/ 5 Quick Hits progressives that is not displaying the progressive jackpots on the monitor and locks up when the machine hits a bonus round. I know the progressive amounts are set correctly. I'm suspecting the "Internal Controller" is the problem.

When you setup the game, are you selecting DISABLE multi Denom? This sound like a 3 reel version of Quick Hit right?

When the machine locks up, what error are you getting? Post some pictures.

Yes, 3 reel QH. Yes, multi denom disabled. I've set up hundreds of Alpha progressives in the past. Never had one do this before. All errors clear during set-up, game plays fine accept for the area where the 5 jackpots should be is blank and machine locks up when a bonus round is hit.

Hmmmm. Usually if a progressive has a problem, it would lock up the machine even before playing.

What OS and BIOS are you using, game version, ect ?

Exactly! It's bizarre. Running 336-09 O/S, California Tribal jurisdiction, bios and 500mhz processor are compatible.
***UPDATE***  I just solved the problem by swapping the MPU. I guess the internal progressive controller was part of the MPU. Good to know :propeller: .

Thanks,

Good to know too! I always thought "internal" was meant it was software driven. Good to know.

Just curious, but did this MPU used to work and all of a sudden stop working? What about running non-progressive titles? If it still locks up with a non-progressive title, maybe the MPU is just taking a crap?

You and I think a lot alike. I just got this machine in and this was the MPU that was in it from the casino. I'll try it on a non-progressive title when I get some extra time. I'm willing to bet that it works as long as you don't have to activate the progressive controller. I'm definitely interested to know for sure though.

Since you've tried everything else.... :Scratch-Head:

It could be anything on the main board (CPU buss (under heatsink), Gate controller(s), External processor (Video: U7, Peripheral: U14), SRAM (U12, U15, U55, U56), DRAM card (under heat sink), etc, etc). I would guess a shorted address/buss - as when the OS/BIOS accesses the "shorted" buss or memory address (That the progressive code runs at/on), it kills the clock and thus "locks-up" the Engine (gets the OS stuck in a loop).   :nerd:

If I lost you, just think of the OS as you with a shopping cart in Walmart. You have a list of lots of items to execute and different isles to go to; to keep the "machine" running. As long as you stay OUT of the beer isle (progressive code/hardware buss-components), the wife will let you run free with no problems. Go INTO the beer isle (activate progressive commands and hardware), and you'll end up going round and round deciding which beer to get without ever making up your mind because of a hole in the concrete in which your cart has fallen (stuck in a loop in the isle)....   LOL

Not worth repairing; as complete, working Engines go for $50-$80.  I have untested main boards - $20 each if you're interested in saving the Engine from the trash can.... Also have testing working Engines, if you need one.

Hope that helps.....

Now, I'm wondering if this is my problem!?  I was under the impression that the "internal progressive" was a software based, internally controlled progressive?  Am I missing hardware to make progressives work on my Bally S9E w/1ghz MPU?

Thanks.

Peace,
Lynny

What game are you running? Need more info to help. I have never had any MPU go out where the progressives work. Usually its a math error on the user trying to program the progressive.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, math is not my strong suite.  I'm working on 1,000,000 degrees Triple Blazing 7's Wild Jackpot.  Thanks,

Ken,

Thanks.  It would have, but I found the same info somewhere last night, and got the progressive part sorted out. :-)

I got through the entire setup process, and then it throws at me " USB Comm (reel) Failure".  This is the only thing standing between me and playing..the software is running, behind this error, I just can't play.  It even accepted money.
I've tried unplugging the reels, no luck. I tried it on my other machine, same error.

Is it looking for something I don't have? Or do I need to disconnect something, somewhere else?
Thanks.

This is a S9E, 1 ghz MPU, 1 Gb ram, bottom 5 reel, top video/touchscreen setup.

Peace,
Lynny

Above the reels are two trays. The one on the left is a USB Com board. There are two green lights. Whats going on there? Power down the machine. Pull that tray out, push it back in firmly to make sure its getting a connection. Restart.

On the reel backplane. How many USB cables are plugged in?

Is your USB cable plugged into the MPU?

When you say this software is following the problem, is the other machine a mechanical setup as well? Disconnecting reels would not fix the problem.

I've swapped the Comm boards, same error. Both machines exhibit errors when loaded with this game.

My game is 20643E
Category 4K

.01 or .05 will work. I've gotten all setup with a penny, and these settings on progressive.
1,000,000
15,000
600
150
30

I can get it all setup now, every time, but when I return to game it throws an error about the comm (reel) failure. Both machines. The 4 reel machine says reel tilt, reel 5..little different error there, but usually has the comm error too..

4 USB ports, 1 older A style, and 2 common USB ports, plugged in, and 1 empty common at the top of that row of ports.

Thanks,
Lynny

When you load this game into your 4 reel it will throw a reel 5 tilt as there is no reel 5. Are you also seeing the COM ERROR on the 4 reel along with reel 5 tilt? I am not sure if its this particular game as its usually a WAP game. Do you have another 5 reel game you can load to see if you still get that COM ERROR? If you don't then the software is looking for newer COM board for the reels. Just some random thoughts not sure.
