Bally 5500 Error Code 54 Won't Clear

Help needed with Bally error code 54

Hey all was wondering if anyone has any ideas for me to try, I have a 1993 Bally 5500-reel slot, bought it not working with a dead battery. Replace battery and did a ram clear procedure and the machine seem to work okay then after playing it for a while the machine would cycle the bill validator and flash an error 54, the error would go away and could play for a while and then would repeat. Left the machine on overnight with no errors displayed but when returned in the morning error 54 displayed in the window and could not clear it. Read comments to eliminate the bill validator switches to fix error 54. Tied the wires together on the switches to eliminate the error, but it did not help. I also noticed that I could pull the handle down with this error but if I turn the power off the handle will lock in place.

Top: Cash Door Lock Switch

I think the yellow and grey might be correct,  I think the cash box should be changed to green and blue?  this is from memory and lately my memory plays tricks on me.

cash box when inserted would puch the plunger down, there by opening the nc contacts and closing the the no contacts.

pretty sure one of the combos is not correct>

if the green and red did't work, try the green and blue, it won't hurt anything.  the green wire is the common post.

Still getting error 54 after changing bottom switch wires to GREEN and BLUE. Is there anything else that can cause this error?

Not sure if this is the fix,  dip switch,  turned on pos 5 and 6 (NO BV)  - did saferam clear - GAME came up - no more 54 - game played.

The old Bally rule, if you change a switch setting you must clear the board for the change to be remembered.

Thanks for everyone's help.  I changed the wires back to GRN and RED on the bottom cash tray switch and still getting error 54.  So I changed dip switches 5 and 6 to "on" for JW3 to say NO BV.  Error 54 is gone and I can play with coins, thanks everyone.  I would still like to get the BV working if possible any other ideas that I could try?  Could it possibly be BV transport, BV side board, backplane or MPU that can cause error 54?

Since I changed the dip switches to say there is no BV to eliminate error 54, now while playing and the reels are spinning I get an error 70.  Open and close the main door a few times to clear the error but comes after playing for a while.  Is there anything I can do to stop the error 70 showing up?  I'm not sure if I need to create a new topic for the error 70?

70 is door opened during play. The White plunger switch/Cherry switch is the switch that detects the door closed.  Switch is not fully depressed when door is closed?  Is the door not closing completely?

Thanks for the help. I read the link and have a BV installed.  It seems strange that when I have the BV turned on and with the two BV switches bypassed I get an error 54.  Then I turn the BV off error 54 goes away then get the error 70.

Can you trace the drop door wire harness and be sure it was connected at the other end? Post more pictures of the wiring around the BV.

The drop drawer wires go to a sideboard on the BV head.  I've tried every wire combination possible on the cash door and drop drawer.  I'm thinking it's possibly the bv sideboard or transport.
