I removed q4 but still have the error.. I was not able to test the other 2 optics as I wasnt able to advance the test via reset key.

There are two different style of coin boards. On one you have to remove Q4.. On the other style board it’s Q3 I think. If this mod is done, it allows you to use a standard coin mech instead of a comparitor.

With your game powered on and with the door open, can you add credits by pushing the small white button on the coin optics board?

its q2 or q4.  Jim states they used to call it q2, then started calling it q4, but its the same component?

I removed Q4 and  tried the credit button but it does nothing.

If test button does nothing you need new set of optics I would think.

Or maybe you have a bad harness?

The best way to know if it's an S or an S+ is to look at the mpu board:

On the IGT S model the mpu board has 2 large wiring harnesses that connect directly to the mpu board on the board's edge connectors. The mpu does NOT plug into a motherboard below it. The mpu does not have an SS and an SP chip. It has one combo eprom chip called the "RS" chip with all the game software in it.

On the S+ model the mpu plugs into a motherboard below it. The S+ mpu will have an SS chip and an SP chip.

That's the simplest and best way to know if it is an S or an S+.

Most S+ have a bill validator and S models do not. But some of the early S+ did not have a bill validator. So you can't always go by whether the machine has a bv or not. Best way to tell is with the mpu characteristics.

You never posted a good photo of your mpu board. This is why photos are important, it makes sure we understand what you have. But from your photo below it looks like you have an S+ mpu board, 10mhz version. (note the round blue volume adjust)

Not sure. Since there were different S+ coin optics boards made over time I think you may need to get the proper set of boards that will connect to the cable that is in your machine now. Examine the cable that connects to your coin optic board, see how many pins (elec contacts) it has. That could be important, don't want to order boards that won't fit your cable. There should be an IGT part number on your present coin optic boards. Post a photo of them if you need help identifying them.

here is a picture of the optic board,  hopefully you did not remove the Q-4 IR component. the component you remove is a surface mount flat transistor. see the picture, it is labeled Q-2 on this board ,later versions it was Q-4.
