Game King 17" Upright LED Question
« on: March 07, 2016, 12:10:04 PM »
Hello-

Newbie here.  My cabinet lights both burned out, as well as the button bulbs, and I find the one up top difficult to routinely get to dealing with the glass.  The tech who sold me the machine told me to leave it on 24/7 (I had a problem last year turning it off for months then the battery ran out).  Everyone else leave their machines on all the time?

So I can see these bulbs lasting only 1 year.  I've read that I can replace them with LED.  Would I have to change or bypass the ballast or fixture also?  Or just pop them in?

Anyone know a good source to purchase LEDs for these bulbs:  18" F15T8, 8" FC8T9, and the button bulbs (I think Lamp #73)

Great forum--I'm learning a lot.  Want to say thanks to everyone.

Jim

I don't keep my machines on 24/7.  Only when I use them, then I power off.  The cost of replacing a battery is a lot lower than having the thing on 24/7.  If your issue is having to setup the game again, it is not difficult to learn, you just need to get a key40 or key22 depending on the mpu your cabinet has.  It's a lot cheaper and less wear and tear on your machine, that's for sure.

The LED replacements for the fluorescent lamps usually runs you about $35 per fixture, some of them a replacements, others bypass the ballast.  As far as the wedge bulbs, you can find them at places that specialize on pinball parts as they use 12 volt lamps, which can also be used for your cabinet with no issues.  Also suzohapp and jameco are good places to check.  Just get the 12v ones and you should be fine.

Here's my topic on power usage for various machines.
