great news that the answer is yes... I have a clear chip, a set15 and the SP chip..

whats the proper sequence for this?

I tried just plopping in the SP1271 chip got the game playing used set15 to enable the bill slot it cashed out a bill after messing around with a few errors it threw

but I couldn't change any options at all in the settings pages, when i tried I then got stuck in a 61 PROM error and couldnt get out of that.

goofed around and I am back on SP731 fully working again with bill.. so any advice on where to navigate the path

I think my problem is that when I clear the memory I drop the CMOS and need a set chip to restore the settings.. I see a lot listed in the PSR, but I have nothing but the SET15 so I think that is my current road block..

Anyone know of all those listed set chips which one I want to get to make this work?

The set15 is just to set denom, and enable bill validator. for other settings you will need a set88, 90, ect..
After you clear, put the game chip in fire up machine. clear errors, then shut down. install set ship do your settings make sure to press test button to save. then power off re-install game chip. clear errors. once self test is done open door press test button to start your settings.

If its on the PSR you should be able to alter the settings. The exception being any IGT progressives like the Mini Photon add-on board.
Make sure you have no credits on the machine otherwise you can't change any settings.

Perhaps I should have asked this first - What in particular are you looking to change with the 1271 ?

That should be part of the SP1271 and not the SET chip.

Yes :) but my problem is I have unstable game when I just pull the 731 and plug the 1271 so there must be a process I need to follow or a set chip needed to initialize the cmos? I seem to get stuck in a 61,62,63 loop when I just plug and play I got out of the loop once and game works but I couldn't change settings it was acting weird then when I left the configuration pages game got stuck in a loop again.

You shouldn't need to, but if it's acting goofy and you're planning on setting up all of the settings anyway, it won't hurt to run a RAM clear chip.

still cant figure this out i have tried

clearing memory
boot SP1271
clear errors to a 62-3
run set chip 88 ( I have no idea how to use this chip)
boot 1271 stuck in 62 loop eventually stuck on 62-0

I have tried running back to the 731 (I can always go back here and get it to play again)
I then just plop in SP1271... 62 errors random I can play game but cant set settings

anyone know the steps needed to do this.. should I just be able to plug and play?

Is your reel chip for tournament?

What's the checksum on 1271, can anyone confirm that I couldn't find that data yet.

Yea I wondered if it was bad but can't tell without the checksum.

As far as I am aware my SS is normal boring reels. (Is that why I can't choose to turn it off without the tables, makes sense)

I'm mostly curious on the checksum to see if my chip is bad - the 1311 SP will be just fine - it has the max credits and lower jackpot payout I wanted ( for a piggy bank I can hand payout over 40 credits and have 9999 max credits so I can just feed cash into it.

To ask another question might be better In a new thread (along with my checksum question) how do I enable the jackpot to credit "2nd key" and such?

Jackpot to credit, I think your SAS has to be enabled for that option to be used. Not sure about second key, don't have any.
The set 88 will enable SAS settings. I take it you don't have the PSR?
Let me see if I can find checksum for 1271

I have the PSR it says I need to have a 2nd key to use this - looks like it can be enabled without SAS the credit payout key however it has no info on
