monitor snapping

ive ran into this condition many times with arcades and video slots, mainly on vga mons, never on a std res that i can think of.......mon will be running youll hear a snap every once in a while and screen will jump. ive had it happen with old and rebuilt units as well as units on the bench that were just capped and cleaned, cant see any where i would be coming from... anyone ever run into this ?

These are CRT monitors I assume. It is the high voltage anode on the tube arcing to the ground strap on the the outer rim of the tube. They accumulate a lot of dust over time, and the dust content is somewhat conductive. This is normal if the dust is not cleaned off.
If it ain't broke.....Stop trying to fix it.

I ran into this before on a video game. Ground out the high voltage cable to the tube before removing, then clean up the area and reinstall the cable. What I did then was use a product called goop. Put a good bead around the area and it stopped the snapping.

Ran into this on a PE poker, discovered a harness above the monitor was dangling down and rubbing against the rubber HV cap of the monitor.
A strategically placed cable tie held the wire away from the HV lead and solved the problem.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.
