Broken wires on IGT S+
« on: March 09, 2019, 01:43:21 PM »
We recently move our IGT S+ Wild Cherry slot, found two broken wires after opening.  They control displays lights, but I need to know where to connect them back to?  red wire comes from backplane, red with orange stripe powers game display.

May I see a photo of this machine from further back?
It doesn't look like an S+

S2000?  The red wire is hot and comes off the backplane.  Not sure what is was for.

okay...Thanks for posting the pics....2 more inches to the right I would have seen the coin comparator.
If it's 13volts then it's an S2000 slant sit-down machine.
If it's 24volts then it's a S+ slant but can also be a PE slant as well.

I'll look for some wiring schematics for what does look like an S+ or PE slant.
Maybe someone with slant machine experience will chime in in the meantime.
I've only dealt with "uprights" and I've never seen a "bar-top" machine.

BTW that harness with the blue wires on the left of the leftmost reel should e snug against the left wall or it will hit the reel basket when spinning.

Thank you for responding.  Yep, I have that to move those wires.  The other wire I traced back to the bill feeder door, looks like it connects to the door open sensor 1 of 2.  When I open the bill collector, the machine goes into tilt mode as expected, but not sure what the other red oracle wire in the pic would go to.

You said the red/orange wire was "hot"...haha...how hot?
What reading did you get when using a multimeter?
To find out, put red probe on wire and black probe on machine body.
Set multimeter to 600DCV then 600ACV and see what readings you get.
I can't find any info on slants other than specs. at the moment

I can give you some wiring diagrams of the S+ or PE but we need to see better where exactly that red wire is coming from.
The red wire exiting the motherboard socket in the pic is very dark.
I can't tell which pin on the socket header it's coming from even when I blow up the picture.

Also....is the coin comparitor a 13v or 24v?With the power off, can you remove the MPU from it's tray?
If we saw the MPU board, I'd be able to tell you right off what machine type you have.
I'm still uncertain whether or not it's an S+ or PE platform model.

DCV: 9.5/9.6v ACV: .191

The red wire is coming from the second port from the top.  Pics attached.  TIA!

Okay...That's a 10MHz MPU circuit board with the blue volume potentiometer dial.
You definitely have an S+ bartop machine. Cool!  :cool_thumb_up:
However, the motherboard that it attaches to is different from an upright machine as uprights do not have a [J15] header like yours.
Uprights [J10] headers have 20 pins and the [J9] header has 15 pins....your [J10] header has 16 pins.
Unfortunately, I do not have the schematics for an S+ drop-in bar machine.

I'm going to take a wild guess that someone was tapping into that 2nd pin on the [J10] header for 12volts for something "aftermarket"?
Somewhere in that machine is the other end of that red wire...it must be in there somewhere.
It may not be needed at this point - I'm going to guess that the machine functions perfectly?  :Scratch-Head:

Yes, it functions just fine. I agree it was something aftermarket as it is not part of any of the wiring harnesses and none of them look disturbed.

Any rate on to the DBV troublshooting.  I found some of the schematics for the jcm wba 12 22/23 bill validator but not sure what the proper dip switch settings are.  I assume 1-7 are on and 8 off but no lights come on.  If I flip them all on then the light blinks steadily but does not accept bills.

You should start a new post for your DBV question in the S+ area of Forum Topics.
A couple areas you can go to are...>>>

Bill Validators and Currency acceptors
and
IGT S and S-plus Reel Games

There's already tons of info on this subject if you dig around though.
Hundreds of members have asked just about every question there is on DBV's for S+'s over the years and it'll be all in there.
