Where to start...  initial issue: had error code 12 (dead battery) no big deal, swapped it out EZPZ.

Unit didnt play nice after that.  No response.

16MHZ mpu. The machine has SP1019 and SS4245/4246/4248 available for install.  have clear/set chips (the chips just say set/clear, unknown if they are even the correct ones).  Run through the clear/set procedures on here (set denom to quarters).  Get 61 on screen > button hold for 61-1 -> reset key 1x ->and it goes to winner paid 01 on display and spin reels button lit up.  I also get no reel spin (as people say should happen).  I cannot get it to respond to the reset/test button after that.  Powering down the unit and powering back up goes to 61 again.

Reading the topics with the same people having similar issues, resulted in a chip on the board that the MPU plugs needing to be swapped out.
I cannot test to see if door optics work as i cannot get it into the menu via the test button.  Cash box door has no microswitch and is wirenutted together, no sound upon power up (ding),

not ready to shoot the machine just yet...  i am sure there is something i am missing.  Maybe i have the wrong set/clear chips.

That is alright.

Just a follow up.  flashing white top light, no audio, no wheel spin (you can see them power up/get tension on the wheels), only number is "01" in winner paid, and 1 in coins played.  Attempted clear/set again multiple times, same result.  Still thinking it is either a bad set chip or bad board.

Could you try a known working 10MHz MPU from another machine on that motherboard to see if a different MPU works in that cabinet?

I'm suspecting the small 8-pin [MSI24C04] prom at location U1 on the MB isn't clearing when after you use the Clear chip.

If the known good MPU works in this cabinet, then it rules out a bad MB U1 chip and the 16MHz MPU becomes suspect.

I wish i had a spare board to test with.  I will contact Mr. Jim (or anyone else wiling to chime in) to see if he (they) have a 10mhz board and the board that it slides into on the back plane. Howeve, i don’t know if the sp/ss chips i have are compatible with 10mhz as well.

okay, I thought you might have another set of chips to try.

The SP1019 requires only the 16MHz in order to work.

I would suggest that you obtain a spare 16MHz MPU.

Google IGT S+ motherboard or backplane

You can send Jim from midwest slots a PM or call him he should have one.  His banner is on home page.

Well. Besides ordering a spare mpu and mb, looking for u1 chip. Qll from china. Mouser has it listed but obsolete and doesnt list a replacement. Ebay it is from china unless someone else has a better idea on ordering a chip.

Also, would it be ideal to try and find a solder in eeprom holder that this sits in?

ordered a plethera of supplies--thanks again RB, including 50 of the U1 chips (hopefully the correct ones, forum search gave me a comparable chip Part number since the original chips are no longer made/sold; at least on mouser's website).  Should anyone need one or two for replacement on their S+ MB or just a spare, shoot me a pm and I will be happy to sell for minuscule amount (plus shipping.)--would be coming from USA, not China so shipping time wouldn't be months).  That said, no clue when they are actually going to arrive.

alright, swapped out door optics, the clear chip used was the IVC123, my new SP chip is SP1272 (previously was SP1019, I believe damaged).

Have 2 available known number set chips (SET015 and SET090).  PSR for SP1272 shows SET090 as being approved.  SET015 when used gives me the 6-1 bill validator turn on option.  SET090 gives me a bunch of available options, but don't see 6-1 for bill validator enable/disable like the SET015 chip.

Display options :
1: Coins played 0, winner paid (blank), credits 1 or 0
2: Coins played 0, winner paid 9, credits 0 (adjustable 0/1 via spin button)
3. Coins played 0, winner paid 31, credits 0 (adjustable 0/1)
4. Coins played 0, winner paid 43, credits 0 (not adjustable)
5. Coins played 6, winner paid (blank), credits 1>25000
6. Coins played (blank), winner paid (blank), credits 0090
7. Coins played 0, winner paid (blank), credits 0,1,2 (changes via key)
8. Coins played 0, winner paid 000 (flashing number moves via spin button), credits (blank)
9. Coins played 0, winner paid 8, credits 1 (adjustable 0 or 1 via spin button)

If anyone knows which of the above needs to be set for non-progressive, BV enabled, top payout is 2500 coins, quarter denoms, etc, feel free to respond.  I have searched for the SET090 instructions but haven't found anything.

Bill validator option has always been 9-1 on all setchips, if I remember correctly (as I get older, sometimes I confuse things, but I'm 99.9% sure it is in this case).

You are correct i mistyped. Even with the 9-1 enabled it doesnt seem to want to play nice. I know it worked prior to the original error 12 for battery. Figured it was another setting that needed to be modified as well for credit limit to turn it on besides 9-1.

got the 10mhz board and MB in today, installed, the IVC123 (clear chip) works as expected, however the PSR for the SP1137 calls for a SET086 chip.  I don't have that chip.  I only have SET015 and SET090.  RB said the 015 should work.  It loads up like it should, but when I put in the SP1137 chip in the MPU, i get nothing on the LCD screens.   Would this be where I post a WTB for a SET086 since the PSR only calls for SET086?  Anyone know a west coast company/user that would do overnight delivery?  trying to get this machine up and running before i head out in a day or two.

just a follow up for those who assisted with this IGT S+.  I was able to get a new (used) MB and 10mhz MPU.  The game MPU required me to use a set015 and set090.  There are some quirks going on with the machine which will require me to mess with the dip switch settings but as of right now it is functional.  I would again like to thank everyone who chimed in.  Time for me to read some PSRs for dip switch settings.  I have marked this topic as solved.

For what it's worth, on most games if you're just trying to enable the bill validator, a SET15 or SET90 should do it.  To access some of the more advanced features, such as tokenization which your SP1137 supports, you may need to use the specific SET chip specified in the PSR.
