Hello I really want an S+ machine with bill acceptor.  But they won't take $5 and $10 bills.   I've been told it's impossible.  Isn't there a replacement bill validator which will remedy this?

The latest release of the WBA12/13 firmware will accept everything but new $100 (which were the last colored bill released).

WBA 12/13 will take everything except the latest $100 with current software V3.75-03i. DBV 200 will take all but new $5 & $100 with latest software V2.61-04-03. The same holds true for WBA 10/11 V3.60-03. That is the best you can do without using a protocol converter & more modern BV. Not worth it for a home user.
Quality doesn't cost. It pays.

With a WBA or DBV200 you can get the S+ to take all bills but the new $5 and the new $100. ** there are exceptions to the $5
Once again note that this is ONLY the new colored money that does not work.

Here is the backstory.
IGT had been trying to kill off the S+ in favor of the S2000 but were having trouble doing it especially with smaller and international casinos. To make matters worse the big casinos were selling their S+'s to overseas markets making it almost impossible to sell new machines into the Caribbean and other Central American countries. Ie in Lima Peru there are close to 200 casinos in the district of Mina Flores alone.

When new money was introduced IGT made a conscious decision NOT to pay JCM (Japanese Cash Machine - Makers of the bill acceptor) for the upgrade for protocols 21/22 used only on the S+. The same bill acceptor works fine with the S2000 but it uses a different protocol. The protocol is simply changed with a dip switch. As you probably guessed JCM had already produced the upgrade for the new money in anticipation. So the software made it out the door. At the time no new $5 was produced and no new $100 was on the horizon.

Apparently a third party group paid JCM to produce a $5 version of the software and it was released under restriction. This is apparently in the wild now and some of the resellers have that version of it leaving only the new $100. The release of the new $100 was delayed as they were embedding magnetic strips in the money as an additional security feature.

I also posted a video I found about a protocol converter which takes the S2000 protocol (24 I think) and converts it to 21/.22. This was shown to be used on the PE+ video poker. I tried to reach out to the poster to find out where to buy and for how much and never got a response. If you do find it - please post here as there are likely a good number of us interested in it. .

Depending on your validator you can either change the chip or flash the head to upgrade the software. Most of the vendors who advertise on our home page can do this for you, alternatively I believe JCM has a guide on their web site that explains how this is done. I looked at it but didn't have the inertia to build a harness so I sent mine out.

What I have done on mine is to set the dbv to 1c which gives me 100 credits for $1.00,
I also use tokens instead of coins as I don't want anyone losing their lunch money..

I also live in Canada now so using US money is more or less irrelevant and the cost of converting my dbvs to C$ is not worth it.

Ok this is what I did. I installed a WBA in a Splus machine and installed the WBA 12/13 software v 3.75-031. And it takes the new 5 and 10 dollar bill.

S+ machines with the WBA transport and version3.75 will accept the new 5 and ten , the current twenty, old fifties and 100's,  I sell the units all the time, just sold one last week to a member, he ran it through its tests, took every bill in every direction.  No worries doing the change.
