Game King 044 Screen Black
« on: November 15, 2020, 12:03:17 AM »
For some of you who might recall, this is the same machine I was encountering those sporadic rainbow lined screens upon start up, as if having a mind of its own it would choose to work at times and at other times shoot the rainbow screen and not work at all. The P/S finally went out on this machine and I thought great, that is likely the end of these rainbow screens. Placed a new P/S in it and she worked for all but a week at which time the screen went black. Strange enough you could actually play the game and hear the sound as you played, everything worked perfect, besides having a black screen. In doing some research I found that a black screen like this with machine play-ability can be attributed to a bad A/D board, but when looking into my LCD screen I didn't see an A/D board. Lo behold once I opened her up vwala, there was the A/D board. Only nothing appeared to be wrong with the A/D board, at least from a visual inspect. Further inspection would uncover what appears to be a blown capacitor, specifically an NXB 220UL 25v, and it is located on another smaller board that has two high voltage labels on it. Soo, I ordered up a few of those capacitors and should get them soldered in within the next week or so. My question is this. Do you guys think this could be the problem? Might my long days and dysfunctional nights of endless rainbow screens be over?!?!!?  :rotfl:
I most certainly hope so!
Thanks all!Scott

The AD board controls a few things, from lower voltage , to signalling the backlight to turn in, to actually displaying the colors and imagine in the screen .

The smaller board with the blown capacitors you pictured is the backlight inverter board, which essentially gives power to the lcd portion of the screen. So if that's blown, it won't look like it's "turned on".  It could be more is blown in the AD board, since that's what gives the inverter board both the signal to turn on and the voltage, but hopefully you replace those capacitors and that's all that blew .

The game will play blind without the screen working. In fact, if your machine has a normal lcd cable connection, you can just plug in any lcd go see it still working.  Hopefully it works out for you!

OMG! Finally, after months, perhaps years, I have finally whipped the rainbow screen on startup and got this machine working flawlessly now! It had nothing to do with the machine at all, rather it was the inverter in the flat screen. Attached you8 can see the picture of the part, found it for $50 at LCDquote.com.
Thank you all for the help!
