S6000 Displays blank and MPU flashing red.
« on: May 23, 2021, 03:01:04 PM »
Picked up a non working Blazing 7.  The displays are all blank, and the MPU is flashing red.  I have all the correct voltages at the TPs lower left side of backplane board.  Not sure if the display board is bad, or the MPU, or what?  Battery is good.  Any suggestions?

If you are sure the PS is good then you have a MPU issue.  Bally 6000 PS are common failure item.

Mean Well PS and the part number is PT-65B.  Jameco has them.  Cheaper than MPU . If PS is old,  voltages only have to be off slightly to causes issues. I install new PS on all  5500 and 6000.

Can you show a picture of the PT-65B?  The one I see on the Jameco website doesn't look anything like the one in my S6000.  Is it a direct replacement, or is there wiring and soldering required to adapt it?

I measured the voltages on the backplane test points.  They measure:
Design +5 VDC , actual 5.3
          -12 VDC, actual -12.1
          +12 VDC, actual 12.7
          +24 VDC, actual 22.1
           7.5 VAC, actual 7.8
I would think these are acceptable, but you say being off a little can cause problems?  I will change it.  But where does the 24 Volt supply come from?  It isn't on the PT-65B power supply.

The 24 V is generated with the large diode bridge and large capacitor next to the small PT-65B.
Let them that don't want any, have memories of not getting any.

Send it to my shop and let me test and repair it on my S6000 test station.

What are you going to charge me to repair it and send it back?

Hello,

I have the same problem as you.
I would like to take the voltages on the test points, but to avoid making a mistake, I use a cabinet screw for the negative terminal (TP1 / TP2 / TP3 / TP4)

And for TP5 7.5 VAC, how do I take the voltages?

Thanks

I managed to take the voltage on the board, the power supply is not the cause, it was the clear ram chips that were burned out.
